The 1st HD 5xxx where relased at 2009 September.
The 1st HD 6xxx at 2010 October.
I guess the HD 7xxxs will be not released before September, but they will release it way before christmas.

I have been reading up on any snippets of information to find out what the card is about...and thus would be cautious about looking for speed improvements with regard to Bitcoins or Namecoins.A GCN type architecture is suppose to be more Nvidia like [aka Fermi] and we know how well the Nividia architecture does w/ miners....there are also rumors I've been reading that it could be just a Cayman architecture with much more improvements which might not be a bad idea when...maybe OpenCL 1.2 compliance + 1 1/2-double the stream processors of current Caymans ?

This is my dilemma now... buy a 6990 now or wait a few months for the 7 series? This would be my normal PC as well, so not just mining. Since 6990 cards are still very expensive with no sign of them getting any cheaper - i'd hate to part with that kinda cash and find out the 7 series is out a month later. I'm also wondering what kind of hash rate the top 7 series card will do.. 1k, 1.4k? hmmm!

The 7xxx will be released when they're ready - and it may not be soon. AMD has been trying to keep a 6-month release schedule, but they weren't able to so lately it's more of a 12-month schedule. That would make it November or so.

However the 7xxx will have a very different architecture from all their previous cards. They are ditching completely both the VLIW5 from older cards, and the VLIW4 of Cayman/Antilles, and go with something all new called GCN. It may be better for mining, or it may be not. Can't tell until they are actually released.
