Hi all.

Lurking for a while but signed up to post this bounty.

Title says it all really, I'm putting forward 2.5BTC (and any donated to an address which I will set up shortly - this one needs to get a lot bigger!)

Task: 'Infiltrate' a US or UK airport and capture images of more than one person being full-body-scanned - both clear photographs of the screen displaying the scanned individual 'nude', as well as photographs of the person either being scanned or clearly about to be/having been scanned.

I would like to take advice on any steps this brave party could take to assure us that returned materials are what they claim to be.

I intend to set up a receiving address for donations, and if successful, our hero should PM me the proof and await confirmation of it's receipt before releasing it to Wikileaks. If it is accepted and published by them, the bounty will be released.

I believe full-body-scanning is both pointless, considering all the other security measures in place which I can put up with (even being groped by strangers) and a dangerous breach of our privacy which is one of many steps the west have been taking towards a disturbing Orwellian future.

[MODS: If you think this is a cool idea, move it out of the sandbox  Grin ]

Interesting task.

What exactly do you want to accomplish? There are demo-pictures around, from the manufacturers at least..
Also, there are several companies, with several machines, with different techniques (backscatter, x-ray, thz), with different visualization-schemes. All in all maybe a dozen unique looking, maybe totally different screens? Some are "nude", some are schematics or stickfigures, some "only" see to the skin, some quite a bit deeper (afair).

I dont like those at all. Dangerous and not working by concept. And too intrusive as well. So I support your cause! :-)

Hey, someone is interested! Thought I was the only one for a moment.

The objective is to prove, if it is, that it's possible to have your images leaked if you go through the scanner and raise the privacy issue again in light of that. Especially following the way the media have been exposed as immoral phone-hackers recently, what's to say they wouldn't bribe someone for these images and use them to discredit a person?

I'm not especially familiar with the differences between the scanner types, I think I'm thinking of the x-ray type, maybe some others too, but those I'm talking about are the type that show the full crack and sack package, to the extent that if you saw a photo of the same person you could make a reasonable guess that they are one and the same person. Can anyone clarify which specific scanner devices show detail as or more precise than the leading photo in this article:

Those look like millimeter wave scans.

I think what you're asking is worth more than 2.5BTC. From my experience with airports, the scanners are usually in a separated area from the rest of the other security lines, behind panels and watched by several TSA employees from several angles. You can only get to that area by passing several preliminary security checks, showing your boarding pass etc. At least in one terminal in NYC you could easily take pictures of the persons in the process of being scanned (they use a different type of machine, X-ray backscatter) but not of the screens because they're not visible.

Again, I think your offer is way too low for what you ask. I wouldn't do it.

I thought mm wave scanners produced metallic looking images? They seem to be of high enough detail to fit the bill though.

I agree my offer is too low, I'm hoping that if there's interest we'll be able to collect a larger bounty. Even is the scanner is separated, the news of the world scandal just goes to show that even the police can be bribed for info on a regular basis, so maybe someone can get in that way  Grin
