Yesterday I sent 4.23 BTC to an address my friend provided me on 10/15/2013. The address 1MergNkpQKagk7cwEUb9MTk4qLy2TbtQfN was supposedly generated from his blockchain wallet. He is stating that he has not received these coins and does not remember which wallet that address was generated from. Is there anyone someone can shed a little more light on this for him or I? I have never dealt with this before.

I can see the transaction on his address on blockchain.info:

https://blockchain.info/address/1MergNkpQKagk7cwEUb9MTk4qLy2TbtQfN

It shows his address (1MergNkpQKagk7cwEUb9MTk4qLy2TbtQfN) receiving the 4.23 BTC you sent. Either your friend is lying or he might have lost his wallet.dat file or something?

He is stating that he has not received these coins and does not remember which wallet that address was generated from.

If your friend have multiple wallets, he should check them one by one now.
If he lost the wallet containing private key of 1MergNkpQKagk7cwEUb9MTk4qLy2TbtQfN, the fund would be lost forever, and no one can help.
