Many cryptocurrency experts were not surprised when Twitter and Google announced that they will be banning all crypto-related ads starting June 2018. Earlier this year, the social media giant, such as Facebook made a similar announcement. This plan, according to the tech giants, is intended to crack down on crypto scams.

Regulators in countries like the U.S., China, Japan, and Russia, have been warning investors to be more vigilant about crypto investing schemes advertised on social media platforms. But for those who mean well for the cryptocurrency industry, this is a welcome move to protect the industry and help it prosper.

Not a lot I think. Probably we'll see fewer ads for the scammy ICOs - which I think was the intent to begin with.

The good ICOs won't be affected that much since they can advertise and market themselves through other means

I think it's a very good thing in the long run.
That will help a lot for pure crypto-networks to grow.
Closing the gates to transfer crypto to fiat and donate them to centralized corporations is right way to go.

So far,  there are few repercussion of all these ban stories on cryptocurrency.  And nothing has changed fundenmentally! I think all the ban news and other negative news were strategically orchestrated to  manipulate the market in other to buy cheap and scare away investors.

It'll definitely slow it down for now, losing the ability to advertise on certain media sites will definitely lessen the momentum for a while. This won't stop the release of new ICOs though, certainly won't stop cryptocurrencies in general. How often do you see advertisements for a new stock or a new asset that's being released? Whoever wants to invest will find the way to do so, it'll just make people focus on different means of advertising.

Finally all the scammy links will be taken down. The side effects of this ban is that ICOs may find it harder to get traffic but that shouldnt be an issue because there are other means for it. ICO media sites will welcome this ban

Sad but true. Big money controls the media and they will use every ploy to slow down the growth of crypto and try to manipulate and control it. The social media ban may prove more to the good of the industry than bad.

I'd say that the real impact is close to none.

I mean as far as my experience goes there isn't a lot of legitimate projects using these platforms to advertise themselves anyways. They either have organic publicity already or they can promote on other crypto related platforms. A lot of phishing links are out there as well as scummy ICOs promising huge returns to target newbies.

Even if they do ban it, there shouldn't be any tangible impact on BTC at all. But traders have proven to be way too easily convinced into selling their coins.

I think these bans will have some impact on the market in the short term.
But in the long run, this will make the whole market legitimate, so I'm very bullish on the future of bitcoin.

It will have a negative impact on the short-term as people think this is a big deal.  As for the overall impact on crypto itself, I think very little and things will start to rebound again.  I think many people look to Bitcointalk for crypto investment candidates and research rather than some advertisement they see on the web.

I think they were logical in imposing ban on ads full of scams. It will actually help CryptoCurrency in long run. I also think, good ICOs will not be affected by this move.

I have to agree.
And I think the question should be what kind of impact will this have on ico's not so much cryptocurrency in general.
