Any companies making one?
Better yet, has anyone here made a simple dedicated one out of a tablet/PC/laptop/etc?
I'm looking to make one for my small business uses. Just looking for ideas. Post 'em up if you have links or photos of ideas.

There are a few out there, but in particular coinkite.com has one that looks like a regular POS terminal for visa or something.

Mycelium has a prototype that they showed off at the Bitcoin 2013 conference. You could buy vodka and pickles with your bitcoins, right there on the exhibit floor. Edit: There's also this.

If there is something that will make Bitcoin succeed, it is growth of utility - greater quantity and variety of goods and services offered for BTC. If there is something that will make Bitcoin fail, it is the prevalence of users convinced that BTC is a magic box that will turn them into millionaires, and of the con-artists who have followed them here to devour them.

If you have a chance to read the draft white paper, here's a framework for an open source, decentralized POS that requires only the bitcoin blockchain, no third party servers, etc. http://www.opencxp.orgAny comments/critiques would be welcomed. If there's enough interest I'll put a FAQ together from the feedback I receive.

I skimmed through most of it, it's a solid read. This is definitely the direction we need to head.

putting together something like Square for bitcoin would be great, and not very technically challenging. https://squareup.com/Id say youd be fundable with one senior guy and a bunch of bitcoin script kiddies the likes of which hang out here.

Awesome stuff there. I'm developing my own custom simple setup, but am also eyeing this closely!
