Yeah. MtGox is like that slow-mo van-off-a-bridge crash in "Inception" which lasted half the film.

Just after withdrawing out of MtGox I discovered that their bitcoin transaction can take 24h?!?!?! How the hell can this be. Do they have baboons behind PCs with bitcoin-qt and typing in the transactions manually?! In an very important time I discover that MtGox is beyond incompetent. I will never use them again and I will tell everyone I meet to not use them. I will curse the day they decided to enter the bitcoin market system. Their incompetence will be very costly to me.

Indeed, do not use them. I did get my bitcoins after 24 hours. Their support replied 5 days later telling me that the transaction went through, what a bunch of tits.

did an 8 BTC withdraw with a fee, nearly 36 hours later and no coins. Can't force the transaction, states it's invalid. No response from support either.
This will probably be the last time I use Gox as well.

On the Gox "Help" Page:
Withdrawals and Deposits
Marion posted this on May 31 17:13 Updated on November 8th 2013 (Delays are updated frequently)
07/11/13: Unfortunately some users are experiencing delays in their bitcoin withdrawals. Our technical team are aware of the issue and are working very hard to resolve it. We apologies for any inconvenience caused.
---Well that I suppose is enough to calm me for now.
But it's concerning that they have been "working hard" to resolve that problem since May. Your post was in November.... and apparently it still hasn't been resolved. Unless this is a new problem with the same effect.

Has anyone been successfully able to withdraw a good amount of coin - say, over 2,000? If so, how long did it take?

I received my Bitcoin withdrawal after roughly 48 hours.
I made a 0.6 withdrawal a few minutes ago, and is now on block chain. I'm still waiting my euros I withdraw a few days ago.

I made three withdrawals. The first is still missing, this afternoon will be 72 hours. The second was received after about 48 hours. The third - which was the largest withdrawal - was nearly instant.
It makes no sense. Withdrawal size and order do not seem to matter.
MtGox is unreliable. I'm going to close my account forever because of their delays and poor customer service. If I were a merchant, I would not use them.

One person here withdrew 700btc. It took him five days to receive I think. According how the withdraws works on gox, I would make 7 withdrawals to take that 700, not a direct 700 withdrawal. Is better to be stocked with 300 btc than 700 btc. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say, my english is becoming worst every day

I finally managed to get everything off of Mt.Gox successfully.
I cancelled the USD wire transfer that had been pending for over a month, put in a buy limit order 20% below market, and waited for a correction. When it finally hit, I transferred the BTC to Bitstamp and sold there. From that point it was less than a week to get the USD from Slovenia to my bank in the U.S.
I think the infinite delays getting USD off of Mt.Gox are due to U.S. banks refusing to accept wire transfers from an exchange that is at war with the U.S. government. Banks are siding with their regulators. So don't bother trinig to do USD withdrawals from Mt.Gox to U.S. banks.
I think the delays in BTC withdrawals are due to bottlenecks caused by their security measures. They only keep a small amount of BTC online, and when that is used up, they have bottlenecks getting funds from offline wallets. This is merely a mild annoyance, not indicitave of a real problem.
The real problem is their lack of honesty. They could openly admit that they cannot process wire transfers to North American banks, but they keep quiet and pretend that there is not a problem. They could openly state that BTC withdrawals will take up to 48 hours, but they just don't seem to care.
In my experience, when you do business with dishonest people, you eventually get burned. Is it worth the risk?

I was given a site that lists all live mtgox transactions that failed to reach the blockchain, and sure enough mine was there: http://skanner.net/MtGox/mtgox_tx.php

Same - I made a withdrawal for ~30 coins, and it's been over 26 hours with no luck. My transaction isn't on the website above, but it is on here: https://data.mtgox.com/api/0/bitcoin_tx.php
