Hi All,

Coinbase actually stole money from me today.  Here's how:

I made two BTC purchases each from a different account as follows:

10 BTC
6.2 BTC

Total BTC I was supposed to get was 16.2 BTC.

Well, the price of BTC moved from 196 to 234 and my 6.2 BTC order was canceled.

What is worse, is that the 6.2 BTC was never credited to my account - before they sold 6.2 BTC out of my account.

Leaving me with 3.8 BTC.

I have emailed them, no response.

Tried on twitter, linked in, phone call, text message , no response.

I think this is a scam. ..  They stole 6.2 BTC which is almost $1,500

Any ideas how I can get my money back?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

You can try to post a thread on www.reddit/com/r/bitcoin

I have seen Coinbase representatives answer threads there, and provide an explanation as well.

Just be sure to post respectfully and ask for help, instead of bashing them. Any bad publicity for them is hurting them, and if you're nice, anyone is more inclined to help you as well as other people being more sympathetic to your plight.

Good luck!

I haven't used Coinbase, and I won't be using them unless they can start honoring their orders.  But I think their support is understaffed, so it may take a while for them to get back to you.

Aside from they non existent or slow customer service they have not stolen anything from you but your time.

I assume you got the 'high risk transaction' message when your buy order was cancelled? If so, join the club.

The funds will reappear in your bank account within 1 to 2 business days as coinbase simply places a hold when your buy is initiated, they do not actually charge your account.

Cheers,

How can I say this nicely. Brain Armstrong's strengths are fraud that is what he did at airbnb. So we all knew his protection was going to be aggressive it has to be with a non-reversible currency as bitcoin is. Also coinbase has investors and has taken VC money so I really doubt they are a scam. I have use there mobile wallet a bit.

*disclaimer I don't work and I am not affiliated with them*

Personally I have not lost any money, although they did cancel my order 2 times. Pm Olaf on bitcointalk.org as he replies to me in a day or two.
