Interesting research coming out of Uni of Cambridge.  Can bitcoins be tracked? ... used to have issues with tainting the bitcoins but current technology has lead to practical ways to trace stolen bitcoins.  im not sure what this means for you and me, like what happens if somehow stolen bitcoins land in my hands... but interesting nonetheless.

If the bitcoin can be traced and recovered from original thief it's a welcome development.

Yes, you really can track the stolen bitcoin you have, but I'll tell you right away, you stole it from your stupidity and naivety)
You can not store passwords and purse data on a PC, buy a USB flash drive, and the thickness of the tracking?
After all, all the wallets are not personal)

at a minimum, it will force regulations to make people produce their identity in order for them to change bitcoins into dollars etc.

It's great if the stolen bitcoin can be traced. But there is a problem.
In order to track the person who has received the bitcoin, the address owner must be known. And it's the opposite of the purpose of the creation of bitcoin. However governments don't want bitcoin addresses owners to be unknown and they are struggling to regulate bitcoin in a way which bitcoin owners can be tracked.

If the theft is not good, yes. But if one sends the stolen Bitcoin through multiple mixers, and exchanges the coins to some anonymous coins and exchange it back then it is impossible to trace the stolen Bitcoins. Recent thefs have shown that is impossible to trace altcoins if the theft knows what he does (e.g. XEM theft).

It's trackable, yes. But that traceability won't help you when you can see that the bitcoins move from one address to another one, because not all of the addresses can be linked to people directly. People can be found if they buy from a webshop and pay with bitcoin and gives out their shipping address (because somehow they need to receive the item they have paid for). But that address can only be questioned by authorities, not by induviduals, so it's not a real help in the end...

Yes you can traced your stolen Bitcoin. But, if you want to take back, that not happen and you can only look it. If you want it back, for that you need to know thief's private key who stole your Bitcoin.

It's nothing new, Chain Analysis has existed for quite a while now. You have to be careful with whom you deal with. Scammers most likely will move on to using anonymous Altcoins.

It's already happening, but first of all you can always exchange for cash, like people are doing on localbitcoins, or you can not exchange at all. At least that's what we are hoping for. That the economy will allow us to use coins directly, just like we can do in some online stores right now, but this time it won't be online. You will be able to anonymously walk into a store and pay with your phone or hardware wallet. I wonder how they're going to trace that.

Since absolutely all transactions are recorded in blockchein and this information is publicly available, we can trace to which purse address our stolen coins are transferred. Also in most cases, the information about the contents of the wallet is also open, that is, what coins are there and their number. Then you can track further where these coins were transferred and all this information is again tracked. If the country's crypto currency is legalized, one can turn to law enforcement agencies and since theft in all countries is a crime, these bodies can use their wider powers to track the movement of stolen coins. If, in the end, the thief brings stolen coins to the stock exchange or exchanger and there he will be identified for the tax authorities, or for another purpose, the law enforcement agencies will very quickly be able to establish the identity of the criminal. In the future, this is exactly how it will be, even if the coins become more confidential and anonymous. For law enforcement agencies, this will not be an obstacle, since to their requests, any institution or organization of any form of property is required to provide answers to the substance of the information requested.

People have been ordering stuff to fake addresses, it's a game of cat and mouse. It won't change because some guy has decided that coins that go from one address to another are tainting the second address. Assuming that the target address always belongs to the sender or that the receiver will know who the sender was is naive at the very least.
To trace the origin of coins that went from an address A to address D through B and C will work only if you can actually contact the owners of all these addresses. So you trace D, ask who C is and so on. What if you have 200 middlemen along the way, located all around the world, and not all of their identities are public?

Bitcoin can be traced. It's not anonymous, everything is public.

This is not really anything new since people have been doing blockchain analysis and tracing bitcoin ever since bitcoin was used to actually trade stuff over the internet. It's hard, but with the right tools, you can definitely do it.

There is nothing you can do if "stolen" bitcoins lands in your hands, you probably won't tell and at least for now, nobody will care. It doesn't make you any less trustworthy since you're not deliberately trying to receive stolen bitcoins.

There is no doubt that you can trace your coins, but the main question is how is that you are able to recover the lost coins, it is hard to recover those coins and even if the hackers sent the coins to any major exchanges , in order for you to block them you need to have a strong case against them so that you will win in the end, it is not that easy to recover the lost coins and that is the truth.

Well, i think yes, because my cousin traced her lost bitcoin, but she cant get it anymore because the robber keeps changing an account.

Ofcourse yes, We can all tracked all the bitcoins that they stolen from us, vuctims. But, I believe that bitcoin is very secured anymore, We can’t get it from them but we are able to report their accounts for them to be banned and they will not able to use their money and their account.

While exchange offices and traders can rely on qualitative judgments about the validity of a transaction for theft, the implementation of protocol-level functionality carries a lot of difficulties. At least now the currency bitcoin is a single mass without divisions into stolen and honest money.

Definetly yes!will, according to my experience those stoling bitcoin or another kind of altcoins thats store in your wallet that  been hacked is traceable ,but  its cannot return back into your wallet, because thats situation i also experience  try to tracing those coin was hacking by me,and find out that theres one MEW wallet, who get my coins and to my friends,so therefore i email the MEW support that maybe  they can do action,or to do something to return my coins, but they answer me that they dont want to involve  about that situation,so therefore the end is nothing happen, and all your efforts and eagerness to return your coins is uselles.
