If I did buy them I'd use them to mine alt coins. Are they worth it though? I don't pay for electricity if that changes anything.

Yeah it's second hand, and I really wouldn't use it for gaming, I have a gtx 780 on my pc.

Yes, buy them! You get 2.5 - 3$ /day mining and then you may even sell them for more than you paid for!

Just a word of advice, even if you buy it don't overclock too much and try to have temperature below 75C. this way you can make it last long.....

I don't know if it counts as overclocking, but I was going to flash the cards and turn them into 6970's.

It might make them run hotter on what might already be weak fans, if they were used to mine, hard, previously. Since you are mining I wouldn't worry much. Rig something up if the fans do die

Your gtx 780 isn't that good either. Second hand or not, gaming is an option and in crossfire they are good. $65 per GPU, considering their hashrate, this is a good deal. Haha! 780 is better than most any AMD card, smoke any 7970 at least. Nvidia for gaming, AMD for mining and wearing out

A 290 won't even beat a 7970 (7970 can't best a 780,) and a 290x is just about on par with a titan. Unless you are going 290x a 780 is a better choice.

Lets not turn this into a pissing contest. Yes I'm aware that I spent a massive amount of money on my 780. It was what I thought was a good card at the time. But for the purposes of mining, they are shit. Complete utter shit. If anyone knows of a better card that has a better KH/$ than what I'm trying to get, speak up.

I have modded the original 6950 bios of mine, just unlocked shaders but kept the original voltage. Instead of raising to 1.188V, it stays at 1.1. I get 490 Kh/s out of it at 900Mhz core and 1500Mhz vram. You may get a tad more if you use the 6970's voltage. Regarding if you will manage better Kh/$ elsewhere, I don't think so.

That's not a bad deal. The best I could find was on craigslist for $80 each ($160 for 2). Best you just shader unlock 6950's, the 6970 flash can potential damage the 6950 via over voltage.

Just watch the temperature not to hit 75 Degrees Celsius often. 65-70 is desirable.

Unfortunately he never got back to me. So I got the second best offer there, which was a sapphire 6950 for $100. Maybe if I make my money back I'll buy another one

Still not a bad price. Still goes for $160-$170 new. You could have brought the price down to $90 to $80.
