AvalonMiner 841 not detected by Controller

Setting up my first 841, and ran across an issue:   The miner is not recognized by the controller.  Power up seems normal - fans and all.  Then I get the green lights everywhere on all devices.  No blue on the AUC3 at all except for a microsecond blip at powerup.  Controller is at the right firmware version (3/5/18).  All looks absolutely splendid, except the web page on the controller looks like nothing is connected.

Any clues for starting trouble shooting?  I tried two different auc3 converter cables.   I have not tried another USB/micro USB cable because I can't seem to find my second one, but will try that when I can find it

Do you get the same result with all four A841 units?

What is the AvalonMiner LED color?

What is the AUC3 LED color?

This might be a case of an unflashed AUC3 converter.

Ok, if you tried every A841 unit, then it should not be a control board (MM board) issue.

What are the technical specs for your 5VDC wall wart psu connected to the controller?

The Rasp Pi wall wart is good for every single Rasp Pi model with those technical specs 5 VDC and 2.5 A.

I'm starting to think if the AUC3 Converter in an unflashed one and doesn't have the AUC firmware installed in it.

My experience with the Avalon 6 was that when the Pi couldn't see the miner, it is either:

1) The micro USB from the Pi to the AUC2 (for the A6).

2) The AUC itself.

3) The 5 pin cable from the AUC to the A6 miner.

On my A6, the AUC has a blue light with just a bit of flicker during normal run.

I know there is a way tell if the Pi can talk to the AUC, but I don't recall which log on the Pi tells you that. The GUI won't help, I needed to ssh into the Pi and look in /var/log/messages (maybe?). If/when I can look at this, I'll post additional debug steps. I don't know how a AUC behaves if it isn't flashed correctly.

Also do be sure that the USBa-to-micro USB connecting between the RasPi and AUC is a data cable and not just a charger/power cable like typically found with phones/tablets... Been there, done that - they are wired with all 4 pins as power and don't work.

The LED colors on the miner, being green, seem to indicate a normal power up.  AUC3 green is "normal".  So I don't think there's anything useful in the LEDs.

No errors in the system, kernel or API logs.   In fact, the API log just records the pool transactions.   There seems to be absolutely nothing from the miners.   

On the CGIMiner status page no devices show up - just the pool information.

All the controller information pages looks for all the world like it does when the miners are powered off.

I'll bet I know what the problem is.  What controller did you use and what firmware is on it.  If *NONE* of your 841's are running, then my bet is you have a mismatch between controller firmware.  The 800's won't run *AT ALL* on the 700 series controller firmware.

Yeah cables are so common source for possible issues and sometimes people forgot to check if their cables are ok.

Good to hear that you were able to find which cable was faulty and get your Avalons hashing.
