I'm about to receive 15k in Bitcoin.

I'm.looking to receive them into my Coinbase account and was wondering whether I can send and receive BTC on there without them wanting a scan of my ID, a request that is insane given the security risk.

Can I do that over Coinbase? Is there a better service, if Coinbase won't let me do it?

Thank you!

Why to your coinbase account? How about receive it to your offline wallet or aplication wallet such as electrum, you dont need to send your ID.
Storing a lot of coin in exchange account is very risky.

$15k is pretty big amount and there is no doubt that coinbase will ask you for your documents almost instantly after you will receive that amount.

You can receive that amount in electrum and than later transfer in fractions to wherever you want.

Usually you will be able to.

However you don't know whether coinbase will take exception with your account and ask your for identification. If they suspect of anything, they can just say that and ask you for ID. And I would not risk it with this large of an amount if you aren't comfortable with providing identification to coinbase.

Download a local desktop wallet instead of using a centralized hosted wallet. My recommendation for a wallet would be electrum above anyone else. Any online wallets whether they require ID or not may ask you for ID. There are no advantages to using coinbase solely for sending/receiving over electrum either.

Yes, Thanks for the heads up, it's definitely gonna be anHD Wallet for this now.

Is there anyone who will seriously speak AGAINST Mycelium? And if yes - why?

Thanks!

The biggest downside of Mycelium is that they to this day still haven't done anything with SegWit yet, which is quite a shame in my opinion, and for that reason alone I would avoid that brand.

Electrum is the way to move forward in case you aren't interested in running a full node. They have been the first to offer native SegWit support, and that far before any other entity in this ecosystem did so.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

Mycelium is good wallet, i personally use it. You can control your private key and you can setting your own fees like electrum. Probably the best wallet for android, imo. So far i don't have problem with it.

The only downside with Mycelium is that it doesn't support Segwit wallet yet.
If you are looking to spend your coins regulary I'd recommend Electrum on Android, Electrum has Segwit implemented on their wallet.
Segwit will make your transaction fees lower when compared to regular wallet, which Mycelium doesn't have yet.

You can check the rules about Coin base wallet on making transaction. They have reserved with the US law enforcement. If the big amount has been transferred using coinbase wallet means they ask your passport or license scanned copy and then they ask you to share the selfish image from your phone or anything else.

Until that your transaction will be on transaction approval wait state.

Go with the suggestions above which I do agree and suggest the same thing.Instead on using up mycelium I will rather choose up electrum because of segwit.
Active transactions would be at ease if you do use up segwit.

Storing up or transferring $15k on Coinbase will definitely give you headache because they would really be alarmed if sudden big amount will put up into a new account. You would be asked on where those funds came from which will result on complying with their KYC which you don't like for it to happen for sure.

Why not use other types of wallet if you will just store it? or you want to sell it? If you want to sell it, of course exchanges will ask for your identity and the source of your funds as they are complying with KYC. If you have no plans to sell it yet and since you stated that you will be receiving $15k which is a huge amount of money, why not use a hardware wallet or any offline wallet for better security of your Bitcoins, if I were you I would not trust any exchange like coinbase with that big amount of money for storing purposes, and only use them whenever you want to sell your Bitcoin.

Check Coinbase limits per level and there you will see what will be the amount limitations for deposit and withdrawals. If there's no other way to received it other than Coinbase and for example we have the same case, then I will just withdraw it slowly depend on my limit disregarding the fees. I don't believed that amount will sound quickly the alarmed unless after you received it, you will do withdrawal right away in one transaction.

Anyways to ease your thinking, just received the amount thru Electrum and that's it. I think you just have few options in your mind that's why you think of using exchange service.

I've used coinbase for a god one or two years and only stopped mid last year. I was able to receive and send BTC without any ID provided. The worst case scenario that I've seen with people using coinbase is that their transactions were linked to gambling websites that coinbase prohibits in their terms and conditions, and their accounts suspended. But they were still able to withdraw funds from it.

But just because that was the case in the past, doesn't mean that they can't request ID docs for you.

I think the best bet for you right now is to probably use electrum or if you don't want to download anything, even blockchain.info would work. Coinbase is technically an exchange. It's too much money at risk.

Never use coinbase wallet for storing big amount of bitcoin and you no need to receive the bitcoin in coinbase or online wallet just download an software wallet and receive your funds there.Coinbase will ask you document verification even the amount is small we need to confirm our identify in these days so better to use an wallet not an exchange.

Bitcoin rates have fallen. You sure you still want to receive them in bitcoins ?

Don't.Coinbase is the FBI of the crypto-world.Go for exchanges like localbitcoins which enforce peer-to-peer policies. If they can't verify your details you will be locked out of your account with money. Moreover, why store your coins there ? Use a personal wallet like electrum or blockchain.info (go for later if you're not too tech savvy)

Yes, Thanks for the heads up, it's definitely gonna be anHD Wallet for this now.

Is there anyone who will seriously speak AGAINST Mycelium? And if yes - why?

Thanks!

One of the biggest drawback of using Mycelium HD wallet is that it generates new address everytime you click 'Receive' on main page. So your single seed will accumulate n number of addresses and private keys, depending upon the number of time you requested new address. Now when you try to send this balance from your Mycelium wallet, although all balances will appear as single balance but transaction will actually broadcast as numerous inputs which will ultimately result in high fees and situation get worse during congestion fees when fees can even reach 0.05 if you using 15 different addresses to receive funds.

Best way to counter such fees is by using single address as much as you can do to receive funds.

I'm about to receive 15k in Bitcoin.

That's absurd reasoning! Actually this is the best time to receive payments in bitcoin if you aren't in rush of disposing them and got strong heart.

So if I agreed upon a job which is suppose to pay me $100 in bitcoins when bitcoin were at priced 7k and the prices fall down to 4k,do you think $100 will hold the same value ? Of course not! I don't know which part of my logic seemed absurd to you but any kindergarten kid would understand the basic math behind this.

Your reasoning was absurd because Bitcoin is already trailing below what it was back in December. It has touched ATL of this year @ 4-5K. When I wrote above post, Bitcoin was $6.6K which is now $7.8K. So here onwards there is more probability that it will go upwards rather than showing downward trends. Hence if someone receives $100 now, it will certainly turn $150-200 by the end of this year. So rather than showing reluctance, one should better receive payments in crypto these days.

Okay I must have missed out that part but I assumed something else.I assumed he is getting paid a fixed amount in BTC that $100 at the rate when the price was decided that  is 0.01 btc.So regardless if the price goes upwards/downwards,he will still be getting only 0.01.Anyway I get your point and this is one of the reasons payments like such should be decided in fixed amounts.
