Amazon GC no longer available through Gyft - Alternatives?

this has nothing to do with bitcoin or any individual company, a short while back amazon US and canada completely stopped third party companies selling gift cards. doesn't matter if it's for dollars or bitcoin. for americans they have to buy from private sellers or amazon.

I wonder why they stopped - perhaps the resellers were somehow buying for a discount and selling at full price?

i haven't been able to find an explanation anywhere. and the fact that it's not global makes little sense. the only likely reason must be fraud, but then that must be a universal problem and there are markets much bigger than canada that are still open to this.

i'd be very interested to know how many amazon US cards are sold versus amazon.es or whatever.

I can't buy anything off Gyft whether it be with a card, paypal, or Bitcoin. EVEN BITCOIN they give an error that says they can't process my transaction because of my account or something. Like, how ridiculous is that. The top Bitcoin to gift card exchange and they can't even accept Bitcoin. Ridiculous website in my opinion.

Maybe it's because your account settings?

Try to change your account to US and try again, if it still persist try contact their support (or find another website )

Fortunately, the justice is not dumb as we can think.

It's not like if, for example, I steal a bike and I call you saying I have a stolen bike to sell if you're interested. And you tell me, okay, you buy it knowing the bike was stolen. In this case, it's considered as "Possession of stolen goods" because you knew it was stolen.

Buying from Purse, or let's say Amazon and similar marketplaces, a product and some weeks after you learn the product was stolen, then

If the individual did not know the goods were stolen, then the goods are returned to the owner and the individual is not prosecuted.

The difficulty can be to be able to prove you didn't know, but showing your account activity from Purse website is enough

however, it seems like eGifter left a loophole (in the US only). they say you can still buy amazon gift cards using "an 'eGifter swap' performed by a gift recipient." here's how that works:

When you receive a gift card on eGifter as a gift from someone else, you can exchange the gift card brand they sent you for another gift card brand, including Amazon.com. To do this, click the “Exchange Gift” button on the gift before you claim it. Upon verifying that you want to exchange the brand you received, you will have an eGifter Swap Card that you can use for any gift card of the same value available on eGifter.

The only current limitation for using an eGifter Swap Card is if you select Amazon.com.  In this case, the Amazon.com card cannot exceed the value of the eGifter Swap card. Additionally, if you combine other brand gift cards with Amazon.com in your eGifter shopping cart, you will only be able to use the following payment methods at checkout:

i haven't tried it, but it looks like you can still buy most gift cards with bitcoin, then "gift it to yourself" (different account) and then swap it. my friend swears by eGifter and has put thousands through it, so i might try this out next time i need one.

looks like a pretty convoluted hack but i guess it doesn't matter if they piss amazon off any more.

i suppose amazon could come back with an even more restrictive policy that cuts off corporate/retail entities from gift cards entirely. right now they're still allowed to buy gift cards from amazon as

part of an employee or customer incentive, loyalty, rewards, recognition, disbursement, or other gifting program (including points redemption)

maybe the eGifter swap trick is too convoluted to give rise to volume that would get amazon's attention, and that's why they're doing it.

i can't quite figure the ins and outs of that though. are you buying a gift card through them bought by someone from outside the site? that's a no for me.

nope. you buy a gift card for someone and he receives it in his email or whatever. then he needs to go to eGifter to claim it. instead of claiming the gift card and revealing the code, he clicks on the "exchange gift" button and swaps it out. it only works for eGifter-issued cards. so it seems like you can make two accounts, buy a gift card for "someone else" and swap it that way. i can't confirm it works though.

Card swap @ egifter is not possible at the moment. I tried yesterday and did not see the option anywhere.. sent an email and received the following response:

i tested the amazon.com card thing inside the bitpay/copay wallet yesterday. it worked perfectly and was near instant. i wouldn't bother messing around with anything else myself.

yikes, i wish i revisited this thread before i went to swap for an amazon GC last night. i'd done it without problems a few times, and they still list it as a method to buy so i didn't think anything was amiss. now im stuck with a $300 home depot card. haha, i guess my garden will be lush this summer.

thanks, i went and did this and the process was super easy. it's nice that you can do exact amounts too.

too bad they jack the fees so bad in the copay wallet though. minimum 10 sat/byte, and to use the amazon GC service you need to spend "normal or higher" fees, which was 102 sat/byte!! i haven't paid those kinds of fees since december.

no other complaints than that. i always wondered who the hell was paying these 100+ sat/byte transactions that are always in the mempool. the copay wallet is one source of bad fee estimation for sure.....
