It has nothing to do with China. Indications came out that Mt Gox might undergo liquidation procedure soon. The 200k Bitcoins might be auctioned. This news caused the drop in exchange value.

Weren't Mt.Gox new buyers supposed to give back the 200k BTC to its clients? http://www.coindesk.com/investor-group-offers-buy-mt-gox-one-bitcoin/

Not going to happen. Mt Gox will be liquidated very soon, according to the Japanese court. The 200,000 Bitcoins will be auctioned. And most of the revenue from the auction will be used to compensate the users.

and pay the debt

Debt? Which debt are you talking about? Mt Gox owes some 650,000 BTC to its customers. They will be partially compensated by the proceeds from the auction. Are there any other debts?

The 650K BTC from a legal stand point is not the issue, there are other debts in $$ if I remember correctly MTGox balance was something like 20million $ Assests 60millions $ debt which means 40 millions in current debts and that's the concern from a legal stand point

Funny to imagine people celebrating the price hitting 420, and today we're dreading it. Cheesy

Or maybe he just wanted to hide some sort of "joke" in the system. Smiley

I don't understand this. Mt Gox operations were highly profitable. But then, how did they accrued this huge debt? Something was really wrong with the company long before Mark K decided to runaway with all the coins.

It wasn't really a company until Mark took over.
