If you want to grow you can try by day trading ethereum or buying other altcoins and sell them for more eth than you originally bought them for.
I wouldn't try out ico's yet (initial coin offerings), especially if you only have 170 and are new to the field.

Most ICO’s now are not secure and some are scam, So better to invest your 170$ in most secure coin. But your already holding a good coin which is Ethereum so better hold it because for now its price is down but it will surely upswing its price maybe by the end of the year.

Take my advice as a guide to verifying any ICO:
1. On preico, the team must have a contract for automatic transfer of funds with prescribed conditions for early investors - not handles like many do, namely those prescribed in a smart contract - otherwise the collected funds can simply enrich the funders or conditions will change during the play - cases of lots.
2. The contract for preICO should be part of a large ICO contract - not different coins - it is not safe in terms of vulnerabilities and withdrawals.
3. The contract for preICO and then the ICO should be registered lower and upper barrier - if this is not the team does not know what it wants - just a scam.
4. The contract for ICO should be escrow of the funds received as a result of placement - it can be a frieze or multisec with a voting condition. This will give you a guarantee against the expenditure of funds earlier than the team completed the previous stage.

ICOs can make you profit and could also lose your investment. It takes a lot of courage and research if you want to invest in ICO. You should know the people behind it and what it can offer to the public but still there's no assurance that it will succeed.

If you're looking for a long term investment I highly suggest that you better just hold your Ethereum since it is one of the most promising innovations when it comes to cryptocurrencies so no doubt that it's value will increase in the near future. With ethereum you have 3 choise: Hodl, trade, invest ico. Not like NEO you can't hodl and earn GAS and wait for price raising. In this case, I think you should hold or looking some good altcoin to buy and hold. ICO is risk in this time if you don't research carefully

With the amount you are invested into Ethereum you are better off just holding it rather than trying to do anything with it, as you are likely going to lose it. 170 dollars is not a big amount for investing, but this does not mean that it should be spent unconsciously. Read the forum, study ICO campaigns, paying attention to the signatures of forum participants. In general, gain experience and only after you spend your ETH as your intuition tells you.
