Internet connection dying

So I've been mining for a couple of months now, not doing too badly either, but one problem I keep encountering every few days is a total loss of my internet connection, it usually happens during the early hours while I'm asleep so I don't find out until the next day. I'm pretty sure it's because of guiminer as closing it seems to fix my internet connection... so uh, any ideas why this would be happening?

Sorry no ideas, need more information... what kind of connection is that, also you say closing guiminer fixes it - does it mean you close guiminer and poof you have internet again, or is there something else you must do?

Also, what does "total loss of my Internet connection" mean? Does it mean you can still reach your router but can't reach Internet sites? Does it mean you've lost your wireless link? Does it mean your Ethernet port's connection light goes out?

I had simmilar problems with my laptop while CPU mining. When tempreature reached the critical point, wifi module simply died (once or twice a day) and I had to turn it off until it was cool again. Take a look at tempreatures

Stop mining with a laptop for a start. 

I know that when my ISP wants to do upgrades they do so early hours, have you contacted your ISP?

I'm not mining with a laptop and temperatures aren't an issue. I can still connect to my router, but it is noticably slower. My ISP haven't had any problems during these outages so I think it really is just my router being clogged up with connections, what I really need is a way to limit the connections it makes

This was happening while I was using a limp little 4770, now that I have a 6870 I'd prefer it to stop happening at all

Pass bitcoin a '-nolisten' flag on the command line when you start it.

By reducing the total number of connections. Are you running the client?

Otherwise, I'm going with heat as the explanation.

If you have an infrared thermometer, open up the casing around the WIFI card if you can and check the temperature during your mining. Then check the specs on the card and see if it is going outside of safe temperatures. It could be a possible reason for failure.

If it's USB, I've noticed a drop connection many times on older computers.
I would recommend just going Wired and see where that leads you.

No, and nothing is overheating.

I'm not using wireless, I don't leave the bitcoin client open while I mine and all of my temperatures are completely average.

when i started out guiminer (or any cli-based miners) pulled down my internet to a crawl on all the other computers in my household.

until i port forwarded the bitcoin ports (or whatever port your pool is using.) and that seemed to clear it up.

Then try to use some external server with more stable connection as proxy for miner. I don't know if there is miner which support proxy connections directly, but there are some apps that can tunnel specific connections trough proxy server.

I have similar problems while running torrent client. Regular connections from other PCs are slow an unstable. When I use my external server as proxy, everything is fine.

Well, since fiddling around a lot with my router & cfosspeed, I've managed to stay connected.

If your router has trouble sorting out this puny amount of traffic, that doesn't bid well.

Use dd-wrt on your router, or if your hardware is not supported then get one that is and use dd-wrt. It's better than any stock firmware that I know of. Wireless connection or Broadband are not stable or connection usually breaks, that's the problem.

What's odd is usually the wireless connection between the Router and the Computer are always up, it's just the connection between the Router and the ISP are usually changing IP's.
You can go through your routers logs to see what's happening.
