The top 10 electricity companies, for example, have just 2000 cash collections centers in India. Cross border remittances have much space for improvement as well. Besides external pressures, Indian policies toward migrants like the introduction of a tax on conversion of remittances, extra regularization of foreign recruiting markets, also cause an existence of black market schemes. For example “telephone channel” that is very expensive and insecure when a remitter brings money in cash to a person (agent) who by telephone requests his friend in India to provide the negotiated amount in local Indian currency to a beneficiary.
