Yes MultiBit is secure and you dont need to dowload blockchain (12 GB) as you need with Bitcoin-qt

Yes, if you dont mind waiting for first time sync, probably more than 8 hours, go with official Bitcoin-qt
client

I would say Bitcoin-qt is bit more secure
