Hi guys,

Following recent Monero fork

Monero Just Hard Forked — and It Resulted in Four New Projects
https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/monero-just-hard-forked-and-it-resulted-four-new-projects/

I remember the time bitcoin ASIC's became public ... at the time I though it was a good idea, (things such as ..kept botnets malware away, higher hash rate would keep NSA job more difficult etc... ) btw I my self did follow Butterfly's FPGA research etc ...

Make a specialised hardware is not a cheap task ..

How much does it cost to have a custom ASIC made?
https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/7042/how-much-does-it-cost-to-have-a-custom-asic-made

When you go for ASIC you are really committed to a project view and your hardware can be useless in a short period of time ... that's why I do think general purpose computing hardware is a good idea too ...

so I just would like to hear from hobbyist miners what are your overall experience regards to those types of hardware mining ?

ASIC's are Application-Specific Integrated Circuit ... basically you make a simpler hardware to solve only one computational problem (in our case solve the mining puzzles)... CPU and GPU a General Computing devices that can be used to solve a more wider computational problems ...
