Ok, so I am no stranger to the mining game because I had two GPUs for a computer I used to mine.

This however, is my very first ground up mining computer.

I tried building the computer inside a crate and that turned out to be a disaster. So put the entire computer on a floor with a cardboard underneath. I'm sure I saw someone here do the same exact thing. When the computer is turned on and running, it's smooth, however the second I start mining, it's extremely loud and I smell something burning. Is card board an acceptable method to place the motherboard on? Are my videocards too close to one another?

Also, I'm running Windows 8 and it can only recognize 2 of the 6 videocards I have. What gives?

could be a power issue give use the specs of the computer

also cardboard is ok for testing but a fire risk for the long haul. id recommend somethimg like a plastic lid off a box or a smooth wood surface. anything is good aslong as it isnt conductive. if you trying to run more than 3 gpus on 1 powersupply odds are thats what the buring smell is

we need more info
