Merit giveaway for Members, Jr. Members & Newbies

Hey there. I feel that the lower ranks as sources of merit receive little recognition. Giving away the little smerit that you have to posters, who despite their relatively little experience in crypto produce quality content, requires thoughtfulness and an understanding of the needs and capabilities of beginners. I feel that this is what this board needs more of and it should be rewarded. Therefore, I am giving away 5 x 2 merit to Members, Jr. Members & Newbies under the following conditions:

a) Participants must be Member, Jr. Member or Newbie that have merited the post of another Member, Jr. Member or Newbie on three separate occasions
b) Posts must be in either English or German

Please submit three instances of you meriting another poster under the above conditions. I will review them and give smerit at my discretion. I should mention that I’m not some kind of crypto-expert. So, merited Off-Topic posts are just as welcome as those in, say, Project Development. What’s important to me is that they are well-written and contribute to making this forum a place to exchange thoughts and ideas that is worth visiting.

I understand that these conditions are highly specific and few posters will be able to comply with them. Which is fine, it’s an experiment of sorts. If it works, great! If not, oh well, I’ll think of something else. If my smerit runs out, the giveaway is over.

P.S. If you find a significant flaw in my reasoning, don't hesitate to point it out to me.

No. He's meriting people who are only meriting people with quality posts. I think that's awesome. He's actually helping keep bitcointalk's post quality up.

This gives an incentive for people to spend their merits only on posts/threads that are highly meritable instead of simply spam posts. We need more merit giveaways like this, where you need to spend sMerit for the right reasons in order to receive them.

Hey, thanks for your feedback. I thought about that as well. To be eligible, participants must have received merit to begin with, so that's definitely a weak spot. Then again, different giveaways cater to different user groups. If this doesn't work out at all, it'll be a lesson learned.

I don't worry about farmers. Merit will only be given if the merited post is of sufficient quality, as decided by me; I imagine that would sift out most farmers.

Well in my opinion, with or without this kind of giveaway and other contests, merit still have a chance to go into merit farmer's hands. They are getting smarter day by day and it is hard to find out which one is a farmer which one is not, but with this kind of action the good ones have a chance to rank up, so i dont find this kind of action as a wrong action. We just need to be smarter to give merits to people who deserves it.

Well, mate that was also in my mind that to rush in getting smerit or something to abused the merit system but I realized that what if I caught from DT members? Besides from that, I'm guilty of doing that because I think my post was not deserving and it is transparent to others viewer that looks like suspicious.
Now I decided to forget it even I stuck with this rank and I enjoy posting and sharing an idea with the genuine thread, and who knows someone merit source who like my post and without knowing me it is merited.

Merit-give-away contests should have as strict rules as possible to find deserved winners. Nevertheless, as you and another guy concerned, Merits can circulate in hands for account farmers. Over time, they are out of sMerits if they are not able to earn merits by themselves from contribution to the forum.

I hate to say this, but account farmers should be wipen out at any extent. They only should keep joining the forum if they change to be real constructive users, at least I hope so. Some of them  might change, and that is positive impacts of merit system on the forum in general picture.

You seems to be picky when it comes to choosing "meritable" posts, especially the author's rank (According to your Merit History).
Do not hesitate to send your sMerit to Full Members and above, they also need it (actually more than Juniors need it).

Anyways it wont hurt to make another Merit Giveaway Thread as long as you're good at "sniffing" account farmers.

It is good when you are not alt-account and not come from account farmers. However, I don't think that you should give your sMerits away immediately after having each 2 merits. Smerits should be given away to only deserved threads. Therefore, you need time to do it (findind deserved threads by chance, and you definitely don't have too much free time to scan all around the forum to find those threads.)

Keep your sMerits till finding deserved threads .
