I don't think so. I was never a fan of social media because the freedom of information was too loose. There are fake news and it can change the mind of a person by just one article. If you look at the stats, not a lot of people are searching on google for articles. They just scroll down in facebook and believe what's there. I am talking about the majority of people that was  into social media. If facebook has their own KYC per account, that is the only time I will believe in them.

LOL... You are arguing in favor of KYC in a crypto-currency forum? Some people want to hide their identity in Facebook and there can be valid reasons for doing that. A few months back, dozens of houses were burned down and hundreds injured after riots occurred as a result of some Facebook post in Cox's Bazaar.

Facebook censors a lot of political news.

If you try to post this graph which is sourced from the tax office and shows that the Conservative party creates the debt and Labour repays it Facebook wont let you. It gets marked as spam straight away.

Any media can manipulate people's opinion (and, as a consequence, their vote), not just Facebook! There are rumours that Facebook is actually owned and controlled by CIA.

I don't know if this is true or not and frankly I don't really care, I use Facebook very sparingly and I do not share what happens to my life easily with strangers.

There are secret lobbies and powerful entities at work to manipulate people (such as the Illuminati, Bilderberg group and the likes), I do believe that to be true.

The problem is not really Facebook, therefore, the problem is that under the excuse of "freedom of expression" anyone can publish anything, even fake news and make it go viral.

THAT would be a problem at that point, not Facebook itself. It could happen anywhere.

Have you ever thought the news as always spread fake news ?..

I will explain . Because of the internet and video phones people tend to see everything these days ..
They see an incident and video it then post it on youtube ..
Then the news say something different than what was posted on youtube by an actual by stander videoing it on their phones ..

NOW ? I thinks the news make worse fake news on our tv plus youtube to confuse people plus they can say FAKE NEWS when it isn't ..

PROPAGANDA ..Tricks with Tricks  Fake with Fake  all to confuse the mind BUT also a thing when something is true they can say FAKE NEWS..

Facebook was a influencial tool nowadays. Just one post or one click it will reach within a billion users. Facebook was a media that you can express your feelings,opinions and mood. You can also post a video or pictures that's why fake news and fraud are common it is fhe reason why people changing their minds because of the fake news spreading. People are easily brainwashed and affected by the information that spreading in facebook.

I think the issue is not just about Facebook, they are just the newest form of monopolizing information. To make an informed decision, you need to be able to listen to more than one side, otherwise you don't have all the data you need. If I grew up my whole life around people who all agree with each other, I would have no comparison to work with. Facebook amplifies this by prioritizing information that you already agree with. Add in so-called 'fake news' and you have a dangerous concoction which could theoretically influence someone's vote. I love listening and reading about things I disagree with, including politics, and often find myself questioning the sources if it seems a bit too convenient. I see friends re-posting links that are complete b*llocks, posting without checking where the information came from. That's the danger, people accept things at face value if they agree, but question everything if they disagree. Personally I think it should be the other way round, it is a lot easier to agree with something you already agreed with in the first place. Anyway, my answer is not really, but it will definitely re-enforce views you already had.

It is now the season of local election in the Philippines --- and the candidates are on their way for the people of their community know them more. A good strategy in campaign must be established for yhem to build a good political relationship between the candidates and voters. I think that Facebook is one good strategy. Mamy people are emgaging in this kind of social media, and there would be no harm if you would penetrate it because undoubtedly, Facebook becomes influencial in all manners. People believe in what information do Facebook shows, even fake news. If people believe in fake news, then they would likely believe also in the politicians' bluff words. Thus, affecting the way people vote.

I don't see how fb would be a danger for democracy? It's one of the main ways of communication used on the internet today. I had exciting debates with friends a few months before my country's presidential elections. It allowed me to see some things differently, and that was not a bad thing

Just to clear up some post about facebook and then i see what you all got to say ..
People say facebook can influence your mind in how you decide to vote?..I say different ..I will explain..

We had the BREXIT and all over the media facebook almost every channel in all the lands around the globe was saying BREXIT would cause the sky to fall in we had threats of nuke war IRA OH we had it all  ..

Now with the fact Tories spent 9 million posting leaflets through everyone's doors  plus all the twiiter facebook adverts say we was basically going to DIE
we still voted OUT to leave the EU ..

So what a fat load of good it done      all that money spent on trying to scare the public into voting to REMAIN failed ..

Now my point is why they NOW pick on facebook because 1 truth can wipe them out  ..

Of course, nowadays media just like facebook, commercial, twitter, Instagram and so on is one of the influencial way to use in political campaigns. And many of voters can encourage when they see an advertisement and propaganda of a person who are running for.

TV Media is the worst. I think they make people believe in only the things they want us to believe. Facebook, on the other hand, gives us freedom of speech. We get to express our thoughts, feelings, and opinions there, NOT filtered. Unlike news, they have to filter the stuff they say because they're either protecting someone or protecting themselves. Facebook is not a threat to democracy. It's just a tool we use to rant our thoughts and exchange with other people so we'd be aware of our differences.

Well we have a freedom of choice either we listen to some fake news that been spreading around different social media , or we just stay focus on our perspective , I know facebook is very powerful but it's use for communication only not a perspective changer. I think the biggest danger with facebook is the confirmation bias the algorithms will inevitably develop. They show you what you want to see which can just lead you down a spiral on one sided viewpoints giving users the false perception that the world is full of people with your own opinion

I don’t think facebook can change the way a persons vote but it does make a huge impact especially if they advertise the campaign through social media. It might not affect to the elderly but to the new generation today, it might change a little bit depending on their own prerogative.
