Is giving Bitstamp or Mt.Gox your information safe when verifying?

Hello,

Is it safe to give Bitstamp and Mt.Gox your Bank Statements, Passport etc? Bitstamp does state that it has to be in it's entirety so I'm assuming no censoring the important bits such as sort code, bank account number etc.

Depends on who you are concerned about knowing the data. If it is a concern, perhaps best not.

I'm not particularly that bothered about who knows the information but, for obvious reasons, I don't want my bank account hacked just because someone else managed to find the information.

Also, is there any way on Bitstamp to verify without sending details such as phone verification or something along those lines?

Not anymore, I don't think. Thank the US.. I doubt you'll be hacked, however. Perhaps utilize an alternate account for such particular purposes?

I gave my information and document to Gox at one point and regret it. I never ended up trading there, so it was lose-lose. I certainly don't plan on trading there now.

Gox has in public admitted working with the DEA. I'm suspect they are not the only ones they give your info to.

On my phone cant search for it now. This was well known in 2011 however.  I myself was reported to different police cuz mark failed to talk with staff. Mark is just fail even at being a narc.

I would have not suspected so far back, but they have some lengthy tendrils.

Well, if you need to keep your identity that secret, you're never going to be able to use an exchange to convert between BTC and fiat. You're stuck with localbitcoins

Are you saying you've never used your ID somewhere that could be compromised?

Hotel, car rental, bank, landlord, credit card...

If MtGox and Bitstamp are practicing the safe handling of your personal data, the risk is always there but not too much to worry about.

Howeer, if they storing the picture of your driver's license, passport, bank statements and credit card and phone bills on the server unencrypted, as they get hacked your private info is at risk.
