Newbie-friendly wallets are a very relative term, we suggest you get a understanding of all the different wallets that are offered before choosing one. We will give you a list of the different wallets and the wallet we suggest per category:

Full-node wallet: The official bitcoin core wallet containing the entire bitcoin blockchain can be found here.
Software wallet: A software wallet which interacts with the bitcoin blockchain but doesn't need to download the entire blockchain. We suggest you use the Electrum wallet which can be found here.
Hardware wallet: A hardware wallet is a piece of hardware that offers the option to securely store your private keys. We suggest you use the Ledger which can be bought here.
Online wallet: A wallet which can be created online with very little effort we recommend an established name like Blockchain.info you can create a wallet here.

Even though the safest method to store your coins is to use a software wallet in combination with a hardware wallet. For a new user creating an online wallet on blockchain.info or downloading a wallet like Electrum is definitely the most user-friendly. These wallets have the easiest UI to grasp as a beginner however you should check out these options and more to get a better understanding of wallets in general. Especially downloading the bitcoin core wallet will help you gain insight of how the bitcoin blockchain works.

If you are talking about a wallet with multiple cryptocurrency support, I would suggest coinbase to you.It is not a wallet for bitcoin, it is also a wallet for ethereum, ltc, and bitcoin cash. They might add more crypto in the future but whats the best in this wallet is that you can directly convert them into fiat, and is also with a newbie friendly user interface as it is a web walle that is easy to operate. If you have enough experience interacting with complex sites, you will easily familiarize yourself with this.

@OP: Exodus.io is pretty user-friendly and has support for several altcoins. However, I wouldn't store Bitcoins there, since they don't let you customize your fees and you could lose money when(if) the fees get high.

If you want to actively trade cryptos, then you're probably better off looking for a good cryptocurrency exchange that supports your country. Coinbase is pretty decent if you have access to it. Pretty much every exchange is built to be newbie friendly, so you shouldn't have too much problems on that end.

If you want a wallet specifically, I would always recommend Electrum. It's one of the most popular desktop wallets out there, and it's not hard to find support. It only supports Bitcoin though. Do take note that you would still need to send your funds back to an exchange if you want to trade, so if you plan on doing that actively, you may want to stick with exchanges.

I would not recommend keeping large amounts of money, or even any amount of money, in exchanges though. Never keep more than you actively trade in there.

Wallet and trading do not really go together. Any app or site that lets you trade or exchange cryptocurrency should not be considered as a suitable wallet. For small amounts and quick accessibility it can be Ok, but for anything beyond that you need a dedicated wallet.

You should decide whether you'd like a wallet, an exchange or both.  An exchange and a wallet are different things because an exchange requires trust in a third party, and generally requires KYC checks.  You can store your coins with an exchange, but you should exercise caution in doing so.

If you're looking for an exchange, GDAX or Bitstamp might be worth a look.  Coinbase is also quite popular with newbies.

If you're looking for a wallet, bitcoin.org has a helpful information page with several wallets of different types that you could use.

If you are looking for bitcoin wallet, certainly coinbase is the solution for new comers.
If you want to control your private keys go with Electrum wallet for PCs.
And for mobile I'd recommend coinomi.

A user-friendly wallet recommendation would be Jaxx. It's a software wallet that you can access on both desktop and mobile and one that supports multiple currencies. Alternatively, Samourai wallet is also a great option for mobile (only bitcoin). Both of these options hold convenience and ease-of-use higher than they do security. That said, however, they do allow for you to store your own private keys instead of depending on a third party which makes them a much better option than leaving your coins on an exchange platform. Once you get familiar with one of these and feel comfortable performing transactions to and from your wallet, then I would suggest investing in a hardware wallet such as a trezor or nano-s in addition to the software wallet. With a hardware wallet, you could implement a sort of strategy where you hold the majority of your coins offline in cold storage while only keeping a small amount on a software wallet for trading purposes.

I believe that Electrum may suit all your needs and give you some fresh experience of low fee transactions through SegWit addresses (bech32 only ATM). I've had no experience of Electrum before I was first introduced to it as the one allowing SegWit transactions for the lowest fees, and I bet your experience will be better than any online wallets where you might have saved your piggybank coins till now. /jk
Don't forget to save your seed as you'll need it to restore your wallet back into the same/different device if you lose access to your wallet. You can also have your privkeys, and it also lets you sign messages (however, they can only be verified through Electrum).
