i did small transfer between two btc clients
it has some confirmations on sending client

both clients have the same block count, but there is no sign of anything on receiving one

i can see that there is correct address displayed, transaction exists in block explorer with same address http://blockexplorer.com/address/1TaKbwZTBLrj1ad64V6sUJEr1ZhdgghBv

already tried restarting, and copying wallet.dat to another client, no luck

what can i do to investigate further?
Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

I would just wait. Sometimes it takes some time until the coins arrive, especially when they were sent without a fee.

I had the same problem when changing wallets. -rescan works on linux but doesn't always work on windows. Get an old backup of the block chain (from http://bitcoin.bluematt.me/bitcoin-nightly/blockchain-nightly/, older than the block including this transaction) and let the client download the rest, and it will show up - this has always worked for me.

Do you have the latest client? Try starting up with the -rescan option on the receiver side. Have you done anything funky like import a private key or anything?

trying rescan option now

edit: it worked... i say we need a whole lot more in help menu

i believe that this is due to lack of confirmations on nontaxed transactions, while i have more than 10 confirmations already
