The sixth-largest state in India, Andhra Pradesh (AP), signed an agreement with a private firm on March 28, aimed at creating a DNA database of 50 million citizens. Blockchain tech will be used as the main software program for the register.

“The more DNA sequences are available, the better we can understand genetic diseases that may only affect certain groups of people and improve the preventative medicines available,” Axel Schumacher, co-founder and CEO of Shivom, told Quartz.

Ok, this really makes sense as we all know that blockchain is capable of holding tons of data and the chance of someone tampering it is less likely. This is a welcoming news and I think this will set precedence in other province of India as well. Of course the more DNA of the population they can hold, the more they can share and exchange information across different hospitals and everyone is assured that the data is safe, reliable and non-corruptible. Gonna be interesting to see this applied almost globally and put into good used specially for spotting diseases early and preventive measures can be put in place early.
