How much money do you have invested in one of these online services?

What would be the cost to own one laptop that you personally have taken measures to secure?   It obviously wouldn't have to be a top of the line laptop. in theory just anything that could connect to the Internet decently, right?

I am trying to deduce what that price would be about where it makes more sense to invest in learn a little more about security than to put faith in services that are backed by their word alone.
