I'm going to buy a macbook pro. Wanted to know which one would be good for mining LITECOIN purposes? I'm getting the 13 inch screen. The options I have are in the link below.

http://store.apple.com/hk/buy-mac/macbook-pro

Again, I shall be mining for litecoin.

Thanks! Grin

If you're buying a macbook to do other stuff and you plan to use it as a monitor...then choose whatever you like.

DO NOT BUY A MACBOOK FOR THE SOLE INTENT OF MINING LITECOINS...Seriously that is a total waste of money.  You should buy an economy macbook or even a used macbook for your own purposes and then buy up 2-3 7950s and an el-cheapo mobo with a 1200W psu....now THAT  is a litecoin rig.

What you're proposing is a monumental waste of money for ltc mining.

Hey,

How much should I expect to spend on "2-3 7950s and an el-cheapo mobo with a 1200W psu." ?

$600+ depending on where you get them and if they are new or used.
Also do not use a MacBook Pro for mining anything.

Message me if you have any problems

So what's the average cost for them if they're new?

Why not use MAcbook pro for mining? I've had HP laptops and they all died in less than 6 months.

Macbook Pro was getting quite a good hit rate on Protoshares - and there may be a more "efficient CPU" algo coming .

having said that ..

but again if you are looking at litecoin - I'm with team "Don't Do it"  however if you want to use your Mac for something else again sure.

MacBooks aren't well-suited for mining purposes Smiley

Purchasing such an expensive machine for mining, which will decrease the lifespan of the computer, and is virtually getting you nothing in return...

It's your decision Smiley

i like spoon feeding, are you small furry and cute ?

{don't answer that}

you can use a Mac book - people are saying its a very overpriced way to get not much back in return.

there is a thing called "difficulty" {search about i}t - when its high you will not be able to mine very much on your Macbook.

thus people advising you to join the Cyberfreak Cyberpunk world of used motherboards , second hand GPU's "only used once for a call of duty LAN" , BIOS updates powered risers , spy cameras, dildo's .....

If you want to see why you should never buy a macbook for mining then just buy it along with an axe to smash your balls with. And if you want to cpu mine... DON'T BUY A MACBOOK! When you mine it all depends on your gpu/s or cpu! So you should start reading this forum at least.

Mining kills laptops due to unsuitable cooling.

When someone above is suggesting ATI 7950 videocards is due to this: https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison

A laptop with integrated video, perhaps reaches 40 kH/s. A 7950 videocard reaches 700 kH/s and is actually appropriate due to ease of cooling, warranty terms, moderate price, etc...

You won't be able to get the ROI in months.
Mining difficulty has increased very much, hardware capable of more than >5Gh/s is the only way to go for now.

Or you could just buy litecoins with the money from the rig.

Hi Triton,

Your idea will not work as you have planned. One of the main reasons is specified in the cgminer software faq:
Quote
Q: Can I mine with cgminer on a MAC?
A: cgminer will compile on OSX, but the performance of GPU mining is compromised due to the opencl implementation on OSX, there is no temperature or fan speed monitoring, and the cooling design of most MACs, despite having powerful GPUs, will usually not cope with constant usage leading to a high risk of thermal damage. It is highly recommended not to mine on a MAC unless it is to a USB device.

So, unless you intend to use an external ASIC along with your new macbook pro, your idea will not work and you should seek alternatives instead.

Well with the cpu of that laptop you will be making about 0.03 LTC/ day if not less. It isn't worth it obviously.
As for the gpu  i don't even know what that thing "Intel Iris Graphics" is...
