There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

This has been suggested, having a separate section for merit.  It's also been suggested that such a section not allow signatures to be displayed, which I think would shut everyone up real quick.  The suggestion isn't a horrible one if it wouldn't entail more moderators.  I don't think that'd be the case if it was a child board of Meta, but who knows.

I think if this was implemented, the merit section should not only not allow signatures, but not allow merit to be given in it.  Ironic, yes, but it'd probably be really effective in suppressing people begging for merit by talking incessantly about it.

I agree with that - you could call the board "Talk Merit"

The things we waste time by doing in this forum. I've just looked at the member list, and there are 3 pages of members with 'merit' in their name. A lot of those are fairly recent as well. Smiley

True, most of the merited posts are in the meta section. I think it would just be simpler to just create subforum specific restrictions for merit, e.g. cannot merit in the meta or off-topic sections.

Right now, the meta section is the go to source for merit farming, just post a few high profile comments there that are likely to be viewed by merit sources, check back in a few hours and you'll probably have 2-3 merit. The same quality of post in another section of the forum would almost certainly attract no merit. Obviously adding a section dedicated to merit is just pointless, as that undermines the entire system. You shouldn't be posting just to earn merit, you should be earning merit just for posting, if you don't earn merit then your posts aren't worthy.

TLDR: Remove merit from the meta section.

Ironically the merit system is encouraging spammers thirsty for merits to spam the meta section with pointless merit ''questions'' or ''suggestions''. In any case I would at least like to be able to report merit threads that are useless and have my reports answered but I don't know if mods are deleting pointless merit threads right now.

So you mean that merit is the only topic that can be discuss when it comes to the technical aspects of the forum that's why you suggested to rename meta section into "merit section"? I think that's a bad idea dude.
Also most of them don't give a fuck about the merit system or its flaws, they are just trying to get merits themselves.
Yeah, you're right! And also, most of them are newbies. Well, we can't still assure that their motive of posting merit-related topics is just to earn merits because maybe they only want to express their opinions about that; we are not on the right place to judge them somehow. But for those guilty, I hope they soon realized that doing such thing is not a good way to earn merit and will only give them bad criticisms coming from others.
