Yes they seem to be giving some important steps toward ERC20 tokens adoption, but I don't think they will start be listing them right now. Maybe they just want be prepared in case a very good token shows up and they don't need to rush things in order to list the token. They already said they will probably list a new coin during this year, and with these moves they will be able to list anything.

I still don't see them listing anything that doesn't have a decent trading volume, but if we consider that EOS and Tron have a bigger volume that bitcoin cash for example, then it probably makes sense that they are starting to take tokens more seriously.

Good move on Coinbase's side. Supporting ERC20 tokens is something every decent exchange and wallet should provide imo. It is profitable for them in the first place but also convenient for their customers.

Honestly, this is very good news for Ethereum platform ecosystem. ICO project has more choices to listed their token after ICO end.
I hope the listing fee is not expensive.

We need to keep in mind that this - while being an enormous opportunity - also leads to more confusion as nowadays Coinbase users don't need to understand the difference between a token and a coin and that the one doesn't work without the other. CEO of coinbase already announced if the only ERC20 asset that meets all of the requirements to be listed on the coinbase sister exchange called GDAX but he said there is no exact time when the decision to add ERC20 asset in the coinbase platform.
This looks weird consider about in the fact that coinbase still not added anything soon. This just another rumour i guess.

They are dead serious about it but ofcourse will not give any hints that which coins will be added. Lots of people think that 0x will be added because of the team which is involved in the project, but I think BAT is a more obvious choice.
