Hi Guys,

A quick and simple gathering of donations in BTC.

Blog post: http://blog.coinkite.com/post/66799837301/bitcoin-community-for-the-philippines-disaster-relief
Reddit discussion: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1qguju/bitcoin_community_for_the_philippines_this_btcs/

Best,

R.

PS: if you have any political opinion you would like to share, this is not the thread.

**Plus this bonus:** the Government of Canada is matching all these donations, so your bitcoins will work twice as hard for the victims.

---------------------

Thank you so much for the donations

Please Donate Directly now

Update Nov 18th 10:57 EST

At the CRC request, we did the exchange Friday and cut them a cheque.

---------------------

Update (Nov 13th 16:59 EST), Canadian Red Cross Statement:
Quote
“CoinKite is raising funds on behalf of the Canadian Red Cross for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan. They have generously agreed to waive all fees associated with these donations so that the Red Cross can put all of the money to good use helping those in need. Thank you for your support!” – Teilo Moore, Analyst and Corporate Relations Coordinator

Quick update, Canada Red Cross created an account on Coinkite, and we will figure out the right way of transferring so that they can be self sufficient with Bitcoins.

They should state somewhere that this was collected from the Bitcoin community.

How come it's not mentioned on the Philippines Red Cross donations web site?  http://www.redcross.org.ph/donate

I would expect that the rate of BTC donations would go through the roof as soon as the red cross acknowledges this donation wallet.

It was already hard enough to get them to endorse this.
Baby steps, we can push them, let organizations figure out the benefits themselves.

PS: I bet that if this was something like 100K it would be getting press and they would be all over it.
