Website: https://monera.network/ IntroductionMonero recently hardforked to CryptonightV7 as a reaction to the announcement of ASIC Cryptonight mining hardware. The Monero Team has made it clear that they will continually fork to new algorithms as they new ASICs get developed. Many members of the Monero family aren’t convinced that this is at all productive as specialised hardware development is inevitable and having ASIC Support is actually desirable.
Why Support ASICs?
1. It’s unproductive to resist themFollowing on from above, Constantly forking to stop ASICs takes up a HUGE amounts of resources and development time. It also attempts to stop innovation in the cryptocurrency space which goes against the open source and open minded approach of the community
2. Potentially Equal or Less CentralizationThis may seem counterintuitive at first. However, since moneros fork the networks nethash rate has halved - back at the levels seen in December 2017. Not even taking into account the new GPU miners joining the network since then, consider where this hashrate has come from. A lot of the increase in hashrate can be attributed to ASICs pre sale/announcement. This means that a single ASIC development company had up to half the network power - which is undoubtedly centralised.
Once the Announcement and Sale of these ASICs started, Monero announced they would switch. This can only promote companies to develop ASICs WITHOUT the intention of announcing and distributing. It's only a matter of time before CyrptonightV7 ASICs are developed only this time they won't be intended for sale.
ASICs miners should be allowed to be decentralised without risk the Cryptocurrency development team making them obsolete
3. Increased Network Hashing powerThis results in a more secure network (Increasingly harder to carry out a 51% attack) and will decrease the rate at which orphaned blocks are created as the probability that two miners find the solution at the same time is significantly less
This also results in a much lower likelihood of botnet attacks.
4. Better for the environmentA criticism of Cryptocurrencies - specifically Proof of Work - is the high amount power usage that some would describe as wastage. ASICs use significantly less power than GPU and CPUs and if innovation and improvements are encouraged this will only improve.
Continuing to force GPU mining is akin to using the wrong tool for the job when the correct one is within reach.
5. Reduce strain on the GPU marketNvidia and gamers alike have made their position on GPU mining clear. There has been a massive strain on the market causing prices to hike because of mining that could be completely eliminated.
Compare an ASIC mining farm to a Vega 64 mining farm:Vegas are a great example as they are very efficient at mining Cryptonight coins at around 2kHs. In a way, they are like a Mini ASIC. If an ASIC farm outputs the same hashrate, what's actually the difference? The ASIC farm would be cheaper, Take up significantly less space (Current Cryptonight ASICs mine at 10x the rate of Vegas) and use significantly less power.

Why do an ICO?One of the main criticisms of supporting ASICs is how it's unfair for regular miners to be able to receive any coins. This coupled with the large dormant mining power of the Cryptonight ASICs its likely to result in a competitive network from day one.
An ICO is an effective way to distribute coins to the community with the added bonus of funding the project to hit the ground running.
Our biggest concern with other Monero forks born out of this CyrptonightV7 change, aside from showing almost no promise, is because they inherit the Monero blockchain. This means that the team behind has no funding or any coins. This is a recipe for disaster as team without any funding or vested interest in the project’s success is destined for failure.
No other Monero Fork born out of the V7 fork has the confidence of the Monera team members which is the fundamental reason for the genesis of Monera.
