If one can not confer upon another a right which he does not himself first possess, by what means does the state derive the right to engage in behaviors from which the public is prohibited?

I hope that someone will buy BitMit (I would if I had the money for it) and keep the website up and running. Losing BitMit would be a shame.

i suspect it was bought out by someone who wants to eliminate competition. i cant imagine any other reason why toaski wouldn't be advertising a sale and trying to squeeze every last drop of value out of it. i too hope that bitmit gets bought up, but i think we should go ahead and start work on a contingency plan.

Well, I vote for halfpricedigital.com but I'm biased Smiley  The reason that I think you all should use my site is because we don't offer escrow!  I know that sounds like a disadvantage, but think of it this way:  Since we don't hold your coins in escrow, there is no chance that we will be hacked and you will have your coins stolen!  Also, we won't be shut down for not having an escrow license, which is very difficult to obtain and most likely not carried by any of the other BTC auction sites that offer escrow.

Post some items on halfpricedigital.com and let's get this party started!

As most of you are probably aware bitmit is closing down. The service that bitmit provided is pretty important to the heath of this community so this begs the question, where do we go now? I know there are alternatives so first lets make a comprehensive list and then weigh the positives and negatives of each choice.

As the founder of cryptothrift, I would definitely love to hear the negatives to see how we can improve our services... We've already received a huge amount of reviews and recommendations and we're working on getting most of them added/fixed by the end of the year, one at a time Smiley

wow cryptothrift looks pretty good. I've been testing coingig and so far have found it to be rather buggy. do you guys do escrow? what are your fees like? how do you deal with scammers?

also a bit off topic but i like to bring this up to entrepreneurs doing this sort of work because i think its amazing http://nashx.com/HowItWorks and could be accomplished in a trust-less manner using multi-signature transactions.

*edit* first experience is this error message when i try to log in using google

Thanks for the comment.

Escrow:
Yes we do have an automated escrow, forced escrow for any seller with 5 or less successful sales where the it's up the buyer's discretion to use/not use escrow. Once the item is received by the buyer, all they need to do is click on "Release Escrow" from their "Won Items" page and the escrow will instantly get released to the seller.

Fees:
We have a promotional offer of 0.0005BTC, 0.05 LTC 0.1 XPM or 1 FTC fee on sold items across the site. This promotion will run out on 12am 1st of January 2014 UTC. After the promotion offer is finished, we will be charging a 1% fee across the site.. If the buyer decide to use escrow, we charge 1% for the escrow service, this fee gets added to the final price of the item (incl shipping) and gets charged to the buyer.

Scams:
We're here to help put trust in Bitcoin and crypto in general; we DO NOT tolerate any scam activities and if a user is found to be scamming they would be risking their account getting banned. This is another reason we have force escrow on the first 5 items so the seller have no choice but to offer it.

We apologise for the inconvenience!! Google have changed their API calls and introduced the new Google Cloud Console, which have caused the issue.
Thanks to you, I was able to look into this right after I read your comment and fix it. Now it should be working just fine Smiley

for the moment Coingig seems to be the one who takes Bitmit's place, sadly it does not have the variety Bitmit had yet..

As the founder of cryptothrift, I would definitely love to hear the negatives to see how we can improve our services...
- More detailed sub categories. In the voucher and fiat categories there could be sub categories for the larger fiat currencies.
- Option to use other fiat currencies than USD as reference. If the gift certificate is for £20 it would be more helpful to have the price in GBP.
- (Much) more than 10 items/page.
- Option to remove currencies from the listings. I'm only interested in fiat and BTC-price, the other ones just makes the listing larger and slower to skim through. If I can't pay using BTC I can't be bothered anyway.
- RSS feeds for categories and searches. This also requires a time filter, so that only autions added the last x days are included.
