What is the best CPU to mine with

So I'm thinking of building a new computer to mine with a cpu I was looking at the AMD ryzen threadripper 1950x 16 core 32 thread. I think that is the best of the best of cpu's to mine with am I correct or is there another cpu that is better for mining?

There are lots of factors to consider when mining not just for CPU but mining in general. It is always good to set a goal first. Do you want to profit from this? Is this a hobby? Do you want to buy a badass gaming rig and just offset it's cost with mining? These are just some guide questions to help you get going..

if it means to mine without GPU I think it's not the best but if it means not to mine yes it's the best.

atm, mine with GPU doesn't sound good let alone use CPU without GPU but technically CPU can use mining like ETN, XMR coin

but if in context of profit personally I still doubt whether profit or not.

Well my strategy would be to mine up and coming coins that nobody is really mining yet and/or mine coins that are cpu mineable only and are fairly new. And hodl the coins for a later sell date maybe a year or 2. So I'm not really looking to mine something with the most $ value but mine something that I can get the most coins (say 100+ per day) and hope for a brighter future in price.

I'm not really worried about immediate profitability, (I actually just sold all my gpu rigs because of the heat plus Im moving soon) so I'm thinking of after moving building a computer that I can play games on and mine some coins when I'm not using the computer. Maybe have 1 or 2 1080 ti's as well.

Not sure what happened but my ryzen 1800x use to mine like $1.40 a day now it’s down to 20 cents? Still running at 630 m/h on XMRstack

Not the most profitable but a bit profit compared to ETH 4 days ago trying to mine xmr using GPU and the result doesn't make happy let alone using CPU without GPU, I don't have time to think about what will to get.

It is very hard to pick one coin now,  cause it all changes, the difficulties of the coin's networks, the prices on exchanges.. so you need to mine to perspective, for example... mine now IPBC and sell when the price goes higher..

The ThreadRipper is a great CPU and more affordable than the comparable i9s. However, you should keep in mind that it consumes almost 200 watts of power. That is equivalent to a decent GPU, yet CPU-only coins are a lot more speculative. Also, they tend to be profitable for much shorter amounts of time than GPU coins. At least with ASICs, someone has to design and manufacture the hardware before they kill off GPU mining for an algorithm. It is far quicker and easier to port a CPU algorithm to GPUs, yet the result is about the same for the CPU miners.

Latest Intel Xeon if you have the budget for such kind of processor and if not then you should go for the Amd threadripper as already pointed out by a few people.

To maximize the profits you can use 2 or more of these processors. In our company we a have a few servers with Xeon processors, haven't tried them for mining as someone of another company was arrested for putting computers of the company to mine for him.

Having a 16 core, 32 thread processor for mining on gives you a huge advantage, but most of all, the Threadripper 1950X's huge 32MB of L3 cache makes it an incredible mining CPU for many cryptocurrencies. It's expensive, sure, but by putting it to work, you could soon pay off the initial outlay for this fantastic processor

I saw a Dell poweredge server with 48 cores for about $600 the other day, it had 4x amd opteron cpus. +2kH/s xmr, can't beat that for the price.

The most important factor in CPU mining is the amount of L3 cache you have, the more the better

If you don't care about ROI or other costs then you're best bet is the one you mentioned but it will be the most expensive one, since the 1950x is the latest CPU from AMD.

If you would like to get a less expensive CPU with a decent return, I would recommend the Ryzen 1800x and divert the difference of cost to get a decent GPU also.

That's right, The majority of cloud mining sites are scam's, they follow the pyramid scheme to steal preople's money. I knew a lot of them in the past (e.x: hashocean) a lot of people at the beginning invested a lot in this site and then in the middle of 2016 the site scam thousands of users and run with a lot of money. Be carful guys when investing in any cloud mining site, properly the end is not good at all.

I recently built a Threadripper system.  I really wanted one, but couldn't justify the cost until I read that interview with one of the AMD guys about CPU mining with Cryptonight on TR.  The ROI is slow (2+ years), and the initial investment is steep.  The CPUs retail for $999, MBs are around $400 and RAM is still very expensive.  I run a 1950x @ 4.0Ghz that mines a self-compiled build of XMR-stak, 1475 h/s and draws 200w from the wall.  The rates fluctuate, but it is earning about $50-60/month profit. 

A cheaper option is Ryzen.  My main system before the TR was a Ryzen 7 1700.  You can hash 600-700 on the Ryzen 7, 500-600 on the Ryzen 5 (depending on your overclock).  With Ryzen 2 out now, you can find some good deals on Ryzen 1 (check micro center if you have one near you).
