better hardware build quality
Lol?

iPhones in general are much better in build quality then the average competing Android phones.  The highest end of Android may be better but certainly not the average.  Fair or not, most cell providers give the customers access to inferior Android phones when comparing against Apple at the same price to the consumer.   For the consumer to get one of the better Android phones they need to pay more money.

Finally iPhones hold their value (for resale) much better.

http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/11/05/iphone-retains-128-more-value-over-time-than-apples-competition-ipad-worth-67-more

Despite all of these advantages I may end up going Android.

iphones hold resale value better because they are not discounted as much as android based phones.

ie: if you bought your galaxy s4 for $50, then the resale value will be lower than an iphone which you purchased for the retail amount of $199.

iphones holding $128 more value makes sense, because if you are paying $50 for your gs4 with a 2 year contract, and $199 for an iphone with a 2 year contract... the resale value would be the same if you sold the gs4 for $300 vs. $450 for the iphone.

as for hardware build quality: up until the iphone 5, iphones were much more brittle than android's top brand, the galaxy line. the build quality, historically, is not better.. but i would go as far as to say that apple's design and materials used make the consumer feel that it is of higher quality. apple is more about perception than anything. i know a lot of people who prefer apple because "it's apple" more than anything.

Steve Jobs thinking:

Hmmmm, what do I do today? Perhaps get a linux, polish it to the point that people want to "lick it", name it Isomething and sell it (at a very high premium)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Angry

I prefer the real thing.

To answer the OP's question, no, crapple has nothing to do with IBM. IBM invented an open platform, the PC, then crapple tries to close it!!!!!  Cheesy

IBM did not invent the open platform.  They accidentally created one because they used so many off the shelf components and COULD NOT CLOSE IT.  Primary issues for them, the BIOS and Microsoft being able to sell MS-DOS to others (the same DOS they made for IBM called PC-DOS).

Switch my iPhone for a crappy android phone, just to use a Coinbase app?  Uh...no.  Just no.   Roll Eyes

actually this is a perfect example of why Apple's model is not worth it.

they cripple the features you have access to, give you shiny pointless bells and whistles instead, and then charge you up the wazoo.  The group of people understand what theyre missing out on are sufficiently small, while the group of people willing to pay for shiny graphics with gradients, etc. are very large.  Apple exploits the ignorance of the general public.

it was everything that Apple was against in the early days.  Oh my how times have changed.  Still remember my beloved apple II+.  It had a whopping 4 colors in the graphics card.

Apple, why have you forsaken me?

apple went from being the underdog (in 1984) in this commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UZV7PDt8Lw

only to become "the oppressive establishment" that they despised in the video. yes to monotony, yes to being brainwashed into believing what they want you to.

Bitcoin is not directly competing with Apple, so I really don't understand the comparison to the IBM vs. Apple feud.

Apple has iMoney patents.

A more apt comparison for Apple is Big Brother from George Orwell's 1984. Apple has been in the censorship business for years censoring a wide range of ideas, ranging from religious teachings, (I am aware of cases involving mainstream Christianity and Tibetan Buddhism) to Comedy, Parody, Adult Content, Free Software, etc. Take a subject which has even the slightest of controversy and there a very good chance that Apple has censored both sides. It hardly surprising that they censor Bitcoin. In fact they have been actively censoring it for quite a while.

The entire IOS business model is based upon censorship and control enforced by DRM

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Apple is a very bad company. Look at how much money they have, then look at their R&D spending's,pitiful.

it only implies that apple's value will continue to erode. technology changes so fast, and they aren't spending any of it to improve services or provide anything innovative. they are just selling new "variations" of their iphone and ipad lines.

these days apple is more like microsoft with these shitty ios7 bugs, updates, and releasing products for "show" rather than waiting for it to be right. looks like time & quality are slipping.

NEVER GOT PAID.

Since I repair both Apple and PC, I can only say its more or less same and its personal preference. I prefer PC with Windows, but can't say that apple OS is bad, its just different. And its being driven by a lot of fanatics  Grin. People who bring in a PC are like "Meh, it's just a tool, repair it so that I can carryon" and Apple people "Take care of my baby" like they just left you their child.

so it's more or less "about the same," but apple costs significantly more for a comparative system... still though, it's just what you prefer. i find ios confusing (there is no dedicated menu/back button, so it is not always in the same place). for their laptops/desktops, i'm just not used to the way it works.. and it's more often than not confusing to me.

That's not what the numbers say.  The numbers say that any given amount of money spent on a iPhone keeps its value as a percentage much better.

To illustrate that point...

I pay $299 for three phones in a row (4, 4s, 5) and sell them for MORE then I paid for them.  In most cases it was $350.  Sure AT&T subsidies the purchase price, but in the end the consumer wins on resale value.  And yes, I know we pay for or (sorta) monthly.
