The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

Watch Bitcoin videos by Andreas Antonopoulos to gain a better understanding of Bitcoin and blockchain technology. Do as much of your own research and reading as you can. As for getting started, I would recommend Coinbase, as this is the easiest and most secure way of putting money into bitcoin at the moment.

Coinbase is your best option if your in the US. Although there is a verification process.

I suggest learning more about the technology before putting any money into it.

I believe that anyone should invest his time before investing is money. He should take time to learn and understand what Bitcoin and blockchain technology is all about and if he is comfortable with investing then he should go with his own research and Strategies for the same. I would strongly recommend you not to invest just because the next guy in is investing in it, you might end up with huge loss without even knowing the reason for it. There will be many opportunities for getting involved with Bitcoin so don't rush with your money to invest.

Don't invest in something you don't understand. If you want to invest in bitcoin, it's best that you read about it first; just for you to know what you're getting in to.

Learn the fundamentals of btc first, there are plenty of btc 101 guides on the internet, I've included one from our blog in a link below. Secondly, or maybe even before, read up on blockchain tech/distributed ledger, after all, it's the technology behind cryptocurrency. There's a link to a blockchain guide below as well. Once you feel a little more comfortable with these (the learning never stops), then move on to wallets--how to securely store your coins, how to perform transactions to and from your wallet. After this, look into exchange platforms. Start thinking about how you want to purchase bitcoins, credit card, in person, a bank transfer? There are exchange platforms that support these methods better than others. There's no right way to start your research, but it is imperative that you gain a basic understanding of all these aspects within crypto before you start trying to invest a large amount of funds. Remember, btc transactions are irreversible, so triple check everything before hitting 'send!' Also, never invest more than you can afford to lose.

^Hope these help get you started. There's plenty on our blog but this forum is also a fantastic resource for learning, use it!

Cheers!
