NASA Funds an Autonomous Spacecraft that uses Blockchain

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) would reportedly be funding a research program to build a spacecraft which would use the Blockchain technology.

Jin Wei Kocsis, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Akron, Ohio, has recently received a 330,000 USD NASA grant in support of her research. She said the research program will be examining various applications of Ethereum-based Blockchain technology to develop a computing system which would safe and could be used in deep space.

Could it be fake news?
I don't believe that NASA would endanger a multi-million space mission using a very new technology as blockchain.
NASA's computer systems are complicated but have another structure different from the home PCs.

The article doesn't elaborate much on how the technology will be implemented but it's one of the technologies including AI which are being researched for use in space exploration
