The usage of the word bitcoin is very inconsistent on the capitalization. In plural, it is obvious that the word should be treated as a normal noun, just like dollars, and the spelling is uniform in this case. In singular, however, many people regard Bitcoin as a proper noun. I think this usage is wrong, since there is no obvious unique entity they would be referring to. As far as I know, neither the technology nor the community associated with it is called Bitcoin, but it is entirely possible that I have missed what Bitcoin is referring to.
The purpose of this thread is to try to settle on a standard, and then consistently stick to it.

Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC. I call the protocol/program/system/network Bitcoin, and the currency bitcoin. Ideally, the plural of bitcoin probably ought to be bitcoin, strictly speaking, too, because we don't call two gold ounce coins golds, we still call them gold.  |

I don't consider it valid. because the actual name is "Bitcoin". It is stated that on many websites including bitcoin.org. Also on wikipedia. There has been many discussions about this though and I believe people agreed on just "Bitcoin". |

I verbally suggested 'bitcoin' as the name of my purpose oriented checking account when I was setting it up. I wanted to give every appearance of forthrighness anticipating that various regulators (some of them human) would be evaluating it over the coming year. My banker named it 'bit coin'. Rather than make a correction, I left the string as written since it will not match trivial regular expressions. On a different topic, my personal preference is to use 'BTC' or 'bitcoin' to refer to value in the blockchain. I use 'Bitcoin' to refer to the project as a whole. |
