Believe it or not I still be Laptop CPU Solo mining and usually end up with a few of these:

PROOF OF WORK RESULT: false (booooo)

But it's just for fun while I'm working on the computer. You never know you could get lucky and get a nice surprise.  Grin

Actually CPU mining is the most profitable out of all 3 category. ASIC, GPU, CPU.... of course you need to know what you should do with the CPU mining and not just mine BTC directly...

I still CPU mine alt-coins like HBN and IFC because I have the computers on anyway.  The other scenario I have is where I'm GPU and ASIC mining bitcoin on a machine and want the CPU to do something instead of just sitting there.

There are profitability calculators out there you can use.  But don't expect to make more than pennies a day per machine even with the most profitable alt-coins if you are just cpu solo mining.

I know what you can do!

Go use your CPU here:

http://www.ipuservices.com/user/signup/?referred_by=IPU077019

Make sure to include the referral by IPU077019 part.  Do not deviate off course or it owns my referral link , which would be bad, since  it gives you magical powers

People are mining Protoshare with CPU and make decent income....

I mined this coin from launch using my fx-8350 and a phenom II x4 from launch solo then later got free trials of windowsazure and ocean to cloud mine via different pools, made myself around 4BTC in the last week but the difficulty has skyrocketed and I suspect the price vs BTC won't continue to rise as it has for much longer so I'm out now...... I'm sure there's still money to be made but you could have missed the boat

I'm mining betacoin with my CPU's at the moment hoping it will hit an exchange at some point.

I still do CPU mining as well as ASIC and GPU mining.

For CPU mining, I am running 3 x Intel Core i7, mining primecoins.
