Hi there

I just bought Revealer Zero. This is really something that can help you by keeping your backups organized. And safe i hope...

https://revealer.cc

Quote
Seeds and pass phrases backups are the last link of cryptographic asset storage. Revealer was created to bring peace of mind to these backups.

Quote
Simple: deep cold two-factor backup solution
Secure: one-time pad with 128 bits of entropy
Redundant: trustless printing and distribution
Flexible: encrypt any secret you want for your revealer
Solid: does not break the first rule of cryptography

They will be shipped in Mai and as soon as I used it i will post a feedback.

What do you think about it?
To read some feedback from more advanced techies would be most useful.

On scenarios when your printed/written seed phrase is in a risky hiding place, this could be a good layer of security.

With a "noise paper" as your stored backup (in a vault), even if someone get access to it, he will find it harder to (or never) be able to read the written/hidden seed.
But this could backfire to the user, according to the site:
Quote
If I loose both cards, can you provide a replacement?
No, sorry. Each revealer is unique and we don’t keep logs, or know what revealer is sent to whom. We send two identical cards because we consider it enough for redundancy, if you would like to have three identical cards let us know and we will consider for future products.
If you lost your revealers, there will be no way for you to recover your seed unless,
you have another non-encrypted copy of your seed somewhere (but if have one, why did you even use a revealer?).

Here's my honest opinion: The "revealer" thing is just a gimmick, like Hardware Wallets. Smiley

mhh, yes thats right. it could just be a gimmick. but a cool one.
and further more it could lead to a feeling of security. of a false security. like hw-wallets ca do.

but to come from that it is a gimmick this could be a nice way to introduce new people to bitcoin. you could use it as a gift. create a wallet, send some BTC to it and then give the revealer away as the gift.

The concept of encrypting the seed on one PVC transparent sheet and the encoded noise on another, such that when they both are overlayed the secret can be revealed. I had two questions pertaining to how this would be useful in a real time scenario:

1) As compared to regularly storing our seed on a paper / printing it on a thing sheet of stainless steel vs that on the revealer, I'm noticing that in both scenario's we can still maintain a form of two-factor backup. For example on a paper wallet or writing our seed on a paper we can store few words on one sheet of paper and other set of words on another. Place both of these papers in different secret lockers of yours and it'll still be useless for a theif to steal just one paper. I feel that the price of the revealer (i.e about 20 Euros) is a bit costly as compared to simply writing our seed and splitting it on two pieces of papers or even more. Would users in this case have any other security enhancement use cases by using the revealer?

2) If I have multiple seeds / wallets then do I need to order multiples of these or can multiple of them be printed / stored on one PVC sheet?

Considering its price, I would say the main attractiveness is how cool the concept is. If you put it securely and someone who knows that you own Bitcoin is trying to rob you, they would probably be finding a paper with words on it rather than a paper that looks like an useless printed piece of paper.

You can use the same secret key for all of them. You aren't supposed to put all of them together. However, you do need to use the corresponding PVC sheet with the noise on the corresponding printed

You can create multiple wallets from the same seed using the custom words feature of electrum. The custom word can just be an integer that you increment.

not really, if a thief has access to half of your seeds your security is reduced dramatically.
If a thief has access to a revealer OR to a encrypted seed, your security is untouched.

2) If I have multiple seeds / wallets then do I need to order multiples of these or can multiple of them be printed / stored on one PVC sheet?

yes. from the FAQ:
Can I encrypt many different secrets for the same Revealer?
Yes, but should you? Revealer is a one time pad – it has perfect security as long as it’s used once.
Depending on your threat model you might want to have more than one secret encrypted for the same Revealer. For instance, if you need plausible deniability. In this case, you need to make sure an adversary has no way of accessing two (or more) different secrets encrypted for the same Revealer otherwise it can be attacked.

However, you can have your seed unencrypted and use the revealer to encrypt multiple passwords that extend the seed to different wallets - for example. Depending on your use case, threat model, and how you feel more comfortable using it.
