How can one ensure with products like this coming out, that you will get the first one and mine everything before they get theres?
Seems like the people making the hardware get more money than the people mining. I mean why sell the hardware if they could mine themselves?

short explanation.
since lifetime of mining equipment is shorter and shorter because of big difficulty jumps, company's make more money by selling miners than the will earn by mining with them.
if you didn't notice, there is no miner to buy that will guarantee you return of investment.
things are slowly changing with this increase of BTC value but not yet.
