I think it depends on person. The person that has negative stereotype can't help their own ignorance. There are ignorant people and also enlightened people in all the Countries. Maybe you find a hippie community in your area and see what I mean.

Are you sure they are not about American Indians (i.e. Native Americans, Columbus thought he had landed in India when he reached the America's so that's why they got that name)?

In India, we have negative stereotypes for all ethnicities and minority groups but we like pointing fingers when some other country says something about us.
