Well to be honest I always had this you Know idea of minning in public where the electricity is free so what I did was I searched and found a super interesting discussion about minning in public.

So there was this guy on Reddit with his theory about how you can use ur lappy and just sit there and plug in and start the mining that too by just ordering a coffee in Starbucks or the cheapest burger or pizza somewhere else.

Was totally funny and made my day.
Make sure to read !

Well to be honest I don't think we should let the employees from major chains like Starbucks and dominoes read 😂 they will probably kick us out before we enter .

You're probably going to lose more money in the long term due to your laptop's hardware degrading a lot faster. Not to mention your laptop is going to sound like a F-22 Raptor aircraft.

This reply pretty much summed it up:
Quote
TLDR; miners are big, loud, noisy and energy hungry. If you show up somewhere and just plug one in casually, Homeland Security will probably add you to their list.

I think it sounds totally realistic.

There you are at Starbucks, just reading your book, drinking your latte, and mining away on your SP31.

Sure, you had to run two extension cords to get enough power from two separate outlets. (You had to try a few outlets before you found two on separate breakers, but now you're mining!)

People walk by and say stuff like "Nice computer!" and "No crazy guy would be running some sort of massive, noisy, loud computer in this small cafe. No, that's perfectly sane behaviour."

Sure, they can't foam anyone's milk or use the microwave without tripping the main breaker on the 60 amp panel that powers the cafe, but they don't understand how rich you'll be, so long as they keep letting you show up from 9-5, 7 days a week to mine. The $13/day (well, maybe $7 a day, since they aren't open 24/7) you make from your $2000 piece of equipment will pay off in no time, so long as you include the coffee they make you buy before they kick you out.

When you said mining in public I thought you would go out in the park with a solar panel..... Grin

But mining with a laptop is out of the question, that discussion is 3 years old, things have changed so much that you can't even mine altcoins with a normal laptop, you will need a "gaming" one to get some money but you will never ROI.
Plus, a Starbucks coffee costs around 2$ (the cheapest here), while the profitability calculator shows me an income of 1.6$ for a 1080 TI  and that for 24h.

And about ASICs, the moment the fans start on that S9 you're going to be kicked out before the first block.

Hidden mining with public networks
The fact that scammers have learned to use other people's video cards on computers and mobile devices for hidden mining has been known for a long time. People even found ways to defend themselves against such an invasion. Today, there are a huge number of programs that help calculate criminals and block their impact on a personal device. Therefore, fans of quick profit for someone else's account went further.

Hidden mining was transformed into semi-legal with the help of public access networks to Wi-Fi. And from this, as practice shows, neither antiviruses nor special utilities will save. By connecting to the free distribution of the Internet, the user actually allows the fraudsters to use his device to extract crypto currency. Naturally, no one is directly informed about this.

I would say that mining in public places is completely a waste of time. Mining requires a good hardware and a suitable surrounding for the mining to be efficient. Public places don't have any of these which makes it completely a waste of time. Apart from that CPU mining as they call it when you mine through a PC or a laptop, is not at all worthy nowadays since the overall profit is almost nothing. So mining in public places just to save a few bucks for the electricity is the worst idea I have ever heard.

Well to be honest I don't think we should let the employees from major chains like Starbucks and dominoes read 😂 they will probably kick us out before we enter .

honestly, mining with laptop is no more worth at all, this kind of thing like you actually destroy your own laptop just for a bucks of dollars.
day by day, the diff has increase so it will need last upgraded hardware to make it worth.

mining is not about electricity only, think the side effect to your device when you did it

Yep. I would say it isn't worth it. You won't make much and you'll destroy your laptop.

The only way mining is profitable is if you do a farm. And I think going underground is the way to do it. It would definitely be cooler and would require less electricity to cool the room.

well I'm not sure that is a really sustainable way to go, it'd be more reasonable to find an abandoned private place and simply plug in there, that could last for some time

This is an interesting idea mining using free electricity, but did you know those people who do mining are using those mining rig for minning purpose. Using a laptop to mine is possible but i don't think it will get you anywhere, and you need to minus away the expenses you spend to buy the food or drink for the electricity.

Well if you want a more covert operation, there are usually dormitories near universities that have somewhat expensive rental rates, but don't charge money for utilities. You can actually use legit mining equipment there too. You'll probably get kicked out after a month, but it's better than getting kicked out after a few hours at Starbucks lol.

But yeah, don't lol. I know this discussion is just for fun but you're basically jacking electricity like how crypto scripts jack CPU resources.

it doesnt matter at all wheather you mine on private or public but as long as you have the right tools or hardware needed, for sure you can always succesfully mine a coin. However , public places are tend to be more expose to the sun and any other hazards that can cause some seriuos problems to your hardware , therfor i wouldnt suggest mining on public places.  You should only do mining on private places because mining hardwares are verry sensitive and can always malfunction if expose to too much heat.

Sounds like a unnecessary risk and potentially illegal if you aren't paying for the electricity. If you want to mine then the best way of going about it is to setup the perfect environment so the equipment is both safe from theft (which I doubt a public place would be), and safe from the elements.

This reminds me of when the school teacher was using the computers in his department to mine Bitcoin back in the early days. I believe he got caught but, can't recall on what actually happened and whether any actions were taken against him. I imagine he lost his job at the very least.
