Hello everybody

I recently found that there is some data available in raw format for Bitcoin forum.

Especially interesting is https://bitcointalk.org/merit.txt.xz, a timeseries of merit-giving, so to speak, events.

I ran some simple aggregations on it, but not with goal of finding merit abusers, but rather useful (I hope so) for newcomers asking questions how to get merit. You have to create good quality posts, for sure, but there is another side, the timing, when is it better to do.

So here is some data (all the time related data is in UTC):

1. Most "meritable" hours in day .

I respect the effort you made to come up with this results I really do , But do you really think that people should time there posting in hope to get Merit ! . The data you provided is useful one way or another , But I do not think it should be used as a timeline guide for new user for posting .

I agree with you and I stated it in my post - one should in the first place create informative topics.

But merit per se is also a measure of how much attention a post can receive, and this is not necessarily based solely on posts qualities.

Imagine you are a product/campaign/ICO manager who is planning to interact with your auditory. You have good content, not spamming or something. Does it matter to you when to post, especially if you do know that in some days, for unknown reasons, posts receive less attention from higher ranked forum members?

I'd say good luck to become a full member. lol. about your work, I'd say that either people are sending and receiving more merits when theymos is not around or they are happy on *thursday more than other days of the week. second lol.

* I don't know about other countries but in mine people are happy on thursdays because they are going to have matrimonial intercourse.

Ps. you should know that mods don't like me, so if you report any of my posts, the chance of deletion is greater than other members.

My assumption would be this coincides with total forum activity.

I'd say that either people are sending and receiving more merits when theymos is not around or they are happy on *thursday more than other days of the week. second lol.
Merit was introduced on a Thursday, that's why there's a "spike" on Thursday. The percentage of all Merit used on Thursday is still dropping, as this averages out.

This is a good work, i really appreciate it. It really helps people to get some merit because sometimes a good post in a wrong time can get you merit but a good post in a right time will get you merit which you deserve with the post. Thanks man.

O ya, one more thing, if you can, it would be good if you can deliver it in a chart or table, so people can read it easily and comfortably.

I didn't add charts in the first time, was afraid of being banned from forum for my color taste. But here you are, I played risky, added charts for the first 2 data series.  Didn't managed to get bubble chart working in numbers for the 3rd, tbc...
