First Senate hearing ever on bitcoins and he spends 80% of his speech talking about the importance of regulating bitcoins? This is seriously a joke. He doesn't understand his job. Someone talking for bitcoin users has to advocate for bitcoins. To talk about the value bitcoins brings to the table. This guy should be fired and not allowed to be speak as a representative for us again.

why not use it as an opportunity to talk about the value of bitcoins
1)people see big value in bitcoins, it has exploded in value to a worth of 6 billion in less than a year of time
2)interest in bitcoin is world wide, americans own just 25% of bitcoins, germans, russians, and chinese are big players are working fast
3)bitcoins are democratic and can help "middle class" americans who will be more represented in the system
4)americas massive immigrant population can use bitcoins to send to their families across the world
5)their are a small handful of bitcoin exchanges and none are placed in the US. this works against US bitcoin businesses
6)a bitcoin ATM was opened up in vancouver, and has done 100k in business in it's first week. the company that made the ATM is based in the USA, but cannot use its product in the USA. this is an example of how business is being pushed out of the country
that is just off the top of my head. but why talk about this when you could say "let's work on the issues and building consensus to move forward. regulations are very important." right?

He did a good job IMHO.
He made a well-informed and balanced appearance and mentioned some important things like 50 different money transmitter licenses are too much.

This is not a joke, this is what the Bitcoin Foundation wants: regulate Bitcoin to give it a "legitimate use" so then the price goes over 9000 Is Bitcoin still a cypherpunk project?  |

Bitcoin should be regulated if it wants to have a bright future. Not overly regulated, but regulated.
On a similar note, If you don't plan on paying taxes on any profits you may make on bitcoin, well, enjoy the long dick of the law. I'm happy to pay taxes on profits.
