What the food industry really needs is a trusted, traceable and easily accessible history of each product’s journey – from farm, to fork. And this is exactly what Blockchain can do. Every step in the food production and transportation cycle is verified (through the consensus of those involved) and recorded onto the Blockchain – guaranteeing security and immutability.

Yup and I believe there are a few ICOs that either finished up or are on going that are trying to solve this problem. One of those that I know of is called Morpheus Network. Huge undertaking but if done correctly, could add value and security to all of our lives.

Apart from food safety in general, this concept could be even more valuable in the organic food industry. With organic food, we have to be able to trust that the whole chain of supply in terms of using only natural methods for food production and storage. This, in my mind, would be great, because currently, I have to trust my supplier blindly that the food delivered to me is organic. I have no real insurance.

I suspect you are referring to one of blockchain applications, I agree with you, this technology can be used to ensure you will get a healthy food and more.
News like The World Health Organisation estimates that almost 1 in 10 people become ill every year from eating contaminated food, with 420,000 dying as a result. Should be quick to accept blockchain in industrial applications, but food brokers benefit from the current system.
At the moment a few projects accept blockchain but no one knows what will happen in the future.

Yes, this is an interesting topic and needs a block of technology, in contrast to 80% of other projects.

Good idea. There are plans to utilize blockchain in a similar role to track growth and distribution of items within the legal cannabis industry. Blockchain utilized in a food tracking role could be more feasible in europe. Judges in the united states typically rule verdicts against food labels advertising whether food products are organically grown or produced via GMO's. That makes it difficult to imagine a system of tracking being adopted.

Europe however has often banned GMOs and made it illegal for many US produced meat, milk and food products to be imported into their countries so they can be consumed. A blockchain based food tracking system might have a chance of mass adoption in european or asian countries. In the USA however it is unlikely that would ever happen.

That is true in food business from owner to customers want trusted, traceable and easily accessible history of each product’s journey – from farm, to fork. This can be after implementing blockchain technology.
