Hello all,

I've just started using tor, I have it set up correctly with the tweaks done to it plus going to the websites that do the tests to check to see how secure you are etc.

I have made an account and after i make the account i go back to the log in screen but everytime i put in my username and password and type the security question it just goes back to the same screen, I made another account to see if it was my account name or not but it's still doing the same thing. Is silk road still up and running or is it not accepting new members for now?

Cheers

Really?  It seems like a lot of people in the community feel that the reputation of silk road gives the community a bad name.

yes. i do also think that, but there is still no hush hush about it.
silkroad is slikroad
bitcoin is bitcoin

if journalists can't keep them separate, it not the community's fault.

tbh, I don't even know where SilkRoad is, but I know what it's used for.Locked It really shouldn't be discussed.

no it should be discussed. we should teach new users about what silkroad, and how it effects the bitcoin community.
the way with just hiding it is not going to help any one.

users of the bitcoin community should be against silkroad, because it gives bitcoin a bad repuration.
but it is not a good idea to just lock topics about slikroad, it is far more better to discuss it openly.

thanks for unlocking the topic. Smiley

That silkroad exists is repulsive, censorship is not the answer however.

no, they shouldnt. They shouldnt kneel down before authorities or mainstream mass media. Bitcoin and silkroad are freedom from authorities and the bitcoin community should appreciate this. Silkroad is not about dealing childpron which of course should be condemned, its mainly for individual drug use that doesnt hurt anybody but yourself.

the bitcoin community should not beg for the applaus of the mainstream masses.

Free trade and freedom to decide about your own body repulses you? Why?

With the recent publicity, it's pretty much an open secret at this point.  The moderators seem to have decided that it's not suitable for these forums, and that's their prerogative.

You missed the critical part though

""Attempting major illicit transactions with bitcoin, given existing statistical analysis techniques deployed in the field by law enforcement, is pretty damned dumb." Minor illicit transactions, on the other hand, are easy to hide, and the sales currently made on Silk Road are almost all below 10 BTC."

Hang on a minute, I'm confused here  Huh

I thought Silkroad was either

(a) A free, pretty, but kind of stunningly hard (if you don't pay) online MMORPG, or
(b) A historical path for trading goods from Asia to Europe

Am I missing something here?  If it's (a), what's so bad about it?  I mean, I played years ago, but I never wanted to pay for their premium items and it got old after awhile.

I just read that article.  First the quote is posted as-is.  Your addition is an opinion of the magazine's, I missed nothing. Additionally, you are talking about money laundering and money laundering services, both of which are illegal.  With the money laundering services openly operating as money laundering services.  So now you aren't trace-able as purchasing drugs, but you are trace-able for money laundering charges.  Major and Minor transactions are recorded in the blocks so they are all equally traceable, with the possible exception of reduced trace-ability with newly minted coins.

Also
"Silk Road itself uses an internal mixing system of the first type, so it does have the weakness that users must trust it. The fact that the system is internal is itself a weakness: even if one cannot tell which drug someone bought, the fact that someone bought something off of Silk Road is easier to deduce, although there is always plausible deniability, since some legal products are sold there."

Using Silk Road may have been safe and secure for a short time while nobody noticed it.  Now it's just stupid. Add to that, you are mailing drugs in the U.S. mail. It's like playing Russian Roulette.

Guardian- Google it 'Silk Road Bitcoin'
