I have always supported bitcoin and its anonymity. Today, we heard about the users who got hacked after they logged in to myetherwallet. This wasn't the first time some users got hacked and there is no doubt it will happen again. It can happen to all of us. There is no difference you are holding bitcoin, Litecoin or Ethereum. All of us wish it was possible to punish that hacker. But all the holders are anonymous. So, anonymity is not always good. What is your opinion about cryptocurrencies anonymity considering this issue?

it is the nature of the business. Users still can make sure they don't get hacked by using device like trezor and double checking if the domain they're on is really the one...

Our savings really can not be 100% protected from hackers. But when we keep money in banks, they're not protected either. Many banks went bankrupt. Governments or bankers may, at their discretion, charge you with illegal activities and freeze accounts. It seems to me that the likelihood of hackers breaking less.

using hardware wallet and paper wallet with keeping the keys safe - best way if you can comply with the minimum security issues (not using a common password or any password that is easy to predict depending your birthday, spouse or kids name etc.)

Also, you should check where you are keeping your coins, like a reputable service, staying away from scam sites, etc.

I also was a victim of hacking. My myetherwallet was hacked and the hacker withdrew all of my eth and erc20 tokens. I lost a huge deal of profit that day but it did not stop there, my account on c-cex was hacked, my account on bitsler was hacked, genesis mining account, coinexchange.io account. I was targeted by hackers as they thought I have a huge stash of btc.

Due to this events, I am pleased when the government requires AML and KYC requirements to all cryptocurrency holders. In that way those hackers can be caught when they try to encashed their cryptocurrency.

What you want to say that hackers are anonymous(or at least try to be anonymous),yet it is most important for every hacker not to be found.I think you've mixed up some things here, hackers anonymity and anonymity of any cryptocurrency is something that is not for comparison.

MyEtherWallet is hacked by hacking Google DNS public servers, and it is not fault of the wallet service(maybe there is a way to to prevent this kind of attack?).Storing coins in online wallet is something that poses the greatest risk for crypto users, and they do it even today after so many hacks that have happened in the past years.

After all I can say that the greatest danger for any crypto user is his ignorance, people who do not learn from the past and other people's mistakes can expect that the same bad things can happen to them in future.

What is your opinion about cryptocurrencies anonymity considering this issue?

What's the alternative? Every user being publicly known? Records about each user being kept by a trusted third party?

All of this only puts holders in harm's way while not preventing cryptocurrency-thieves from doing their thing. Quite the opposite. It would merely make staking out potential targets easier, while cryptocurrency-thieves will likely just find other ways to stay anonymous.

You can't fight anonymity, so use it to your advantage.

Some users agree with the anonymity of the crypto but others want this anonymity to be removed because of the problem of the latest case. The application of taxes to users of crypto is one of the solutions to this problem because the identity of the crypto holders is clear and the tracking of hacking crimes will be easy to deal with. The hacker always worries the bitcoin users and I hope that in the future there is an authority that is able to eradicate and even prevent this hack so that no such thing will happen to the users of crypto in the future.

Anonymity is one of those great features of bitcoin. It keeps  user’s  privacy  safe . But hackers always doing their best to steal ones wallet. Some hackers using sites, inviting people to visit their sites, just to know  your account and get your username  and password, Just be careful with them , I just once invited but I ignored it. Somebody warned me on that , it is  a scam.

Regardless of the fact that I don't consider online wallets as actual wallets, but banks instead, I still understand your issue.
However, anonymity is a core requirement of any democracy and without it we lose something way more important than money.
Keep in mind that you can not lose your entire life savings by theft, if you are reasonable of course, as hopefully most of your worth will be held in real estate.
Losing a right of privacy when making your everyday transactions is something very dangerous to the safety of a democratic society.

Cash was and always will be more anonymous than cryptocurrency, so by deanonymizing cryptocurrencies you will never do much for the safety of society, but you will hurt the usefulness and adoption of a very great and promising democratic technology.

To me anonymity can be ahieved as long as you have every intention of keeping it that way. For us with cryptocurrency maybe one of the reasons we have jumped and got on the hype train was because we believe that we can earn whilst achieving complete autonomy and anonymity from every transaction. However we work on the internet and it always leave a digital trace if one knows how to look for it and a hacker can break it if we are not careful

Conflict of ideas!
Bitcoin was created and designed to be decentralized to prevent the tradition banking system from controlling our own financial assets. But as time passed by, problems about crminality, hacking, scam and money laundering came.
That is why government wants to put a regulation to cryptocurrency, to protect the investors and future investors against this harmful activities. But it will eleminate the idea of decentralization.
Soon majority of the ICO's and exxhanges will require KYC and will phase out anonimity.

As good as the anonymity of cryptocurrencies is, it is also seriously disadvantageous in the sense that once coins are stolen, they are gone forever and without a trace. Where are in a situation now in the sense that it is either we want to do away with anonymity as cryptocurrency enthusiasts so that thieves can he caught or we want to continue to leave with it.

It's their fault, they are not careful in keeping their wallet. Maybe their private key is leaking or something else happens to them. If they realize that their wallet is important, they might buy Wallet Hardware like Trezor or Ledger.

first of all anyone who is using a web wallet should already know that they are taking a big risk because they are using one of the least secure methods of having a cryptocurrency wallet. getting hacked is somewhat expected!

secondly the anonymity of non anon coins has different levels. there is the anonymity to normal users where an average Joe can not know who you are by looking at your transactions and the anonymity to the law enforcement which is different and they have the ability to possibly find the owner of an address (in this case the hacker).

There is a FOMO brewing...

the problem of data protection, anonymity of translations is very difficult, because stability is the responsibility of the data flow, which can easily enter any hacker. Most likely, when artificial intelligence appears, data protection will be on top.

Yes instead of myether wallet, they could have used any hardware wallets like trezor so that their hard earned coins could have been saved.Welcoming the regulation of government just for tracing the hackers is not logical.Even our credit cards, debit cards get hacked and when compared to these, crypto coins are far better.

What is your opinion about cryptocurrencies anonymity considering this issue?

There is definitely advantages and disadvantages of cryptyocurrency anonymity. One disadvantage being that you can't report to anyone if your funds got lost(whereas you could report to your bank when talking about transaction fraud and such). That's why people should stop being careless and stop getting phished. In this case though, on the recent MEW hijack, you cant blame much the victims as it's really quite difficult to spot this hack, as their coins/tokens get stolen anyway even though they're on the correct MEW url.

Anonymity of users and cryptocurrency holders is very important. People could easily be robbed and their digital assets stolen if they disclose their holdings and do not have enough security measures in place.
