Until there is a reasonable altcoin with new features that could replace bitcoin or at least get a big part of it's current market share , no.
The price of altcoins is driven by bitcoin price increase so , stick to bitcoins.

However in saying that, my understanding is there have been some large investments in an exchange or 2 tailored to both bitcoin and altoin types of currency, one namely ibit?

One may or could assume that if say the top 20 crypto currencies are then listed they would all have some chance of going up in value against the Daddy bitcoin?

I guess bitcoin itself has first mover advantage, but one can visualise a place for the other altcoins, ever for the sake of giving bitcoin competition for one and enabling traders and the like to jump in and out of each at free will for variety and to take positions.

Just a thought.

I do 95% BTC and 5% LTC.
LTC seems to follow the BTC when it grows fast, so i think a small investment in LTC would be good.
Also for later is BTC gets big, they can use litecoin for smaller transactions.

The risk with alt coins is many already become worthless and many people lost holding it serious bucks. Make sure you do extensive research if you care about your money and willing put money to alt coins
