One of the best things about crypto is that, unlike cash, losing your wallet (or dropping it in your morning OJ) DOESN'T mean your coins are gone... necessarily.

When you get your hardware wallet, the first time you plug it in, it will generate a 12-24 word "recovery seed". This is a bunch of random words that you write down on a little card. And then you store that card somewhere VERY VERY safe. Such as in a safe.

If the wallet gets nicked, lost, craps out, or indeed simply becomes obsolete (the USB plugs on today's wallets may be obsolete 5 years from now), don't panic.

Just buy a new wallet, then select the "recover wallet" option. Type in the seed words and poof! Your coins are magically there again.

Now, the new wallet has to be seed-compatible with the old one (each wallet explains the requirements) and most importantly of all - NO ONE ELSE must be allowed to use that recovery seed on another wallet!

If your recovery seed is stolen, even if your wallet is just fine, someone could use it to "recover" your coins to their own, new, wallet.

As for having your wallet stolen, to access your coins, the thief has to defeat your PIN first. If you use a 6-digit pin, it's pretty tough. Why? Because each time they guess the wrong PIN, the wait time to try again increases by a power of 2. Pretty soon they are waiting DAYS between guesses.

That gives you time to go "OMG my wallet!" and order a new one. I'm a little troubled by the way you need to have a new wallet standing by before you can recover the old one, but hopefully in the near future these things will be sold in shops.

Until then, that's the only risk - that a thief will somehow crack your PIN before you get a new wallet to recover your old one to. Very, very unlikely.

In the currency of the future if you forget your password you simply lose all your money forever. But this is good because people have convinced themselves that lots of people losing money in bitcoin will make them richer since they think you will just buy more bitcoin instead of saying "that was a dumb place to keep my money"

You are lucky to recover your account, however we must still careful for any website that can recover our passwords or sharing important details in our account, anything today can be hackable…The best thing to do is to be cautious and secure your password, also make a way to remember, or if you have a short term make a way to know it, like jotting down and put it in some place where you put your important files.  Smiley

it is perfectly. but where are the guarantees that these guys will not be able to recover your password and just do not steal your money? I think there is only one option: always write down your password.

your right my friend if you create of any account you need to write down your password because 89% you forget it. I think if you forgot your bitcoin wallet password. You need to think what your password until you remember it.

Recently many people who bought bitcoin years ago find themselves sitting on an untouchable bounty. Those lucky guys who purchased or mined just a few bitcoins at the start of the age of cryptocurrency nowadays can boast about their savings. However, some of them are now in a painful limbo, because they can't remember the complex security passwords needed to get to their bitcoin wallet. Unlike a bank, bitcoin has no central hotline to call for a reset. This is really a bad thing,it's like forgetting a bank account password, but there's no bank to call to reset it. That money is lost forever. That might be a lot of money at today’s exchange rate.

Actyally, this bad thing happened to me last year, and my friend recommend  this website:http://recovermybtc.com/ to me,she said she has retrieved her bitcoin wallet password through it,and I download this software,it really works after I used it,and you need to pay some service fee to them, but it's not high.Somebody who lost their bitcoin password can make a try, good luck.
a good opinion and input for investors who have forgotten to remember the key code of their wallet, we should be more careful and more clever in storing and remembering something very important

That's a very sad story for people who already earned a huge amount of bitcoin and just forget something that is important to access that million. But good news there is this site that can help you recover by just paying. But what if you try to steal what is inside the wallet and ask for help to that site will it be possible. Just curious it will be a big problem to Bitcoin holder.

If I forgot my Bitcoin wallet password I would have lost all the Bitcoin I had. Because if I forget and no one who knows it is certain I will lose it all. But if I forget and I already know the people I trust, I can still maintain my Bitcoin.

most likely when you lose the privat key access to get into your wallet then the assets you have will disappear, you better synchronize with the mobile device and your number essentially secure your wallet as safe as you can.

if you forget the password there isn't much that anyone can do to recover your wallet. but you can try a tool to attempt to brute force your password and you need to have some idea what your password like length of the password

For bitcoin wallet holders who have forgotten their passwords, all may not be as bad as it seems.
If you forget your password then find a way or look for someone who can recover you wallet and be wise on that person because there's many people who are untrustworthy that can do bad things also illegal doings. And next time be responsible on everything that you have especially when it comes to your wallet and any accounts.

It's a shame for bitcoin users to forget such very important informations. Better hire an internet expert, they may have some ways in retrieving those passwords. But we can always avoid something like this to happen. For me, I have this habit in writing down everything. I really cannot trust my memory. That's why i jot down all the informations in my bitcoin dealings, in order to never forget a single thing. To tell you all the truth, i've made 2 copies just in case.

In case we forgot our password on our given wallet or exchanger it is not the end of the world for us. Because at the first place system of wallet in the internet or even in offline wallet provide alternative keys or email that we could used to reset our password and for us to retrieve our account and to used it again on a daily basis.

If you have the wallet.dat file you should eventually be able to bruteforce your way in right?

lol, better don't try this. I though this will collect your all secret info for future attack your another crypto assets. I don't think anyway to recover your wallet password without seed words given at beginning

Thanks it seems that we can now recover bitcoin even if we lost our private key. I'm hoping that this will work to those who had lost hope. I will secure my private key as safe as I can and make a back-up to make sure that i have no problem about lost private key.

well, i've made some wallet in blockchain, and lost the password. well, all I can do is surrender to that. Well, right now I keep the coins I have on the exchanger, so, when I forget the password, I just have to confirm it via email.

What password ? You dont need password if you have seed phrase for your wallet.
But if you forgot your wallet seed, there is nothing you can do. your balance will stay there forever.

Then you dont have an access on your bitcoin wallet if that happens. There is no way to recover anymore your password. So take good care of your password so that it will not be missing, forgotten and stolen. If you lost your wallet password then your earned money will be gone too and no one will benefit on it.
