Peercoin Weekly Newsletter - Issue 4
November 20th

Introduction

As Sunny King continues to develop the new Peercoin client, the community starts shifting their focus toward mainstream media coverage, Peercoin comparisons for 'Joe User' and upcoming Bitcoin Conferences.

Peercoin Mainstream Coverage

In the last newsletter, we talked about breaking out into more mainstream news. While this certainly doesn't happen overnight, it's nice to see we're starting to make some headway.

Bitcoin Conferences

Just a reminder, we'll have boots on the ground at the upcoming London and Vegas Bitcoin Conferences. If you would like to help support the initiative, please let us know. The volunpeers are working hard to make sure we have a set of measurable goals during each conference.

Chinese Exchanges

We want to thank Nox-, Jimmy and Redlee for leading our Chinese Exchanges initiative. We look forward to having conversations with these operators and assist them with anything they need from the Peercoin community.

Jordan's Peershare

Here's a little info from Jordan Lee's Peershare project:

"The shutdown of BTC Trading Corp and Litecoin Global has caused me to consider if there is a way for businesses to manage publicly held shares in a decentralized fashion. I realized it is possible to leverage Peercoin and proof of stake to accomplish this in an elegant and resilient way using a design I will call Peershare. I'd like to present my preliminary design and have my plan criticized and improved by the community."

Something you should add under broken records is that Peercoin surpassed $1 and a $20 million dollar market cap for the first time on Monday.

Would love to make PPC fly to the moon, like BTC.
Told an investor from http://peatio.com about PPC today.
Let's hope they add PPC to the orderbook soon.

As Sunny King continues to develop the new Peercoin client

Do you have any news about that? Probably even a date he is working towards? Can't wait for the new release. There are some very important new features in the pipeline.

Thanks again for your effort. You are doing a great job!

PPC v0.4 has been making progress but it still needs some more work. Hopefully the merge with bitcoin v0.8 would be code complete this week and testing can be started. On the other hand, I am evaluating the cold-locked transaction feature proposed several months ago, it may get implemented into v0.4 if things go smooth. This feature allows PPC users to run hot wallet minting stake without the risk of losing the coins due to compromised system. This feature is particularly important for operators with public wallet such as exchanges.

So a merge with BTC v0.8 plus some PPC specific ones.

The cold-locking feature is really important. It greatly improves security for PoS minters. Hope it comes with 0.4 Smiley

Also, seems we have hit a new ATH in indirect trading with 1.16 US$ / PPC today. So PPC, for now, was not affected by the Bitcoin crash.

Oh it got higher than that on Monday. I personally say $1.19 and it was at one point higher than that according to the graph Tongue

What I really want to see is the ability to activate proof-of-stake minting by hitting a button, rather than all the extra stuff you have to do right now. That's not very user friendly for new people.

I agree, this and the posibbility to unlock only for minting are the really important features for 0.4. Ofcourse there are several other cool features like the console. I guess we will see good rally as soon as the new client is released (as long as it brings those features).
